Overwatch is a colorful First Person Shooter game by Blizzard. It currently has a cast of 29 characters, all with unique storylines, abilities, personalities, and voice lines!
Every now and again, they will release a cinematic trailer, or comic series, to give us a glimpse of what is happening in the world of Overwatch.
With hero 27 being the Tank/Healer hybrid, Briggitte, the question on everyone's mind is, who is hero 28? Is it someone we know already, or is it someone completely new?
A few days ago, Blizzard leaked a possible hint at hero 28.
https://gamerant.com/overwatch-before-the-storm-teaser/
In the teaser, we see posters about Omnics, we see a Lucio poster (Lucio is Hero 28 Hashtag CONFIRMED!!!!), we see something about Horizon Lunar Colony, with a monkey, and a dog, as well as a Junkertown poster on the right.
So everyone is saying, that hero 28 is Hammond, an experiment whos name is shown in the Horizon LC map. Hammond is most likely a small animal, so he's either chimpanzee, a cat, or a dog, or something else. Which could be possible.. but other's are saying it could be the Junkerqueen, since Blizzard has a way of tricking us. Such as when hero 27 was teased, we first thought it was a guy named Emre.. but it was actually Briggitte.
One youtuber, actually said that it could be a mech hero, from Junkertown. Because the creators mentioned in the forums once, that they'd love to have a mech hero, similar to D.VA's mech. There are actually un-used mechs in the Junkertown map.
I have a weird theory myself. Blizzard said that they might someday, release 4 characters a year. Since the first teaser gives the possibility of a few characters, what if they released two characters at the same time? (Which would be nice for the no limits arcade mode.)
I think it'd be cool, and exciting! (But at the same time, they're bumping their events up, so maybe they're making them earlier, so they can eventually release heroes every three months?)
I'd also like to point out, that Winston was experiment 28, on Horizon Lunar Colony, so he should have been hero 28.. And that Lynx 17, should have been hero 17. Just sayin' yall, just sayin'.
Overwatch has become one of my favorite games, even though I am a RPG d.VA at heart (See what I did there?)
But it's nice and refreshing to have a game, where I can get excited about new content, since all of my favorite games are long dead. (RIP Suikoden, Chrono Cross, and Kya Dark Lineage!)
Here is a list of the characters released in order.
This is a list of characters ranged combat styles (Like long range, close range etc)
So I've noticed a pattern that the new heroes have been released in, and it is as follows...
There's two things that I've noticed, these can be clues to the release of the next hero.
1. The hero patterns have been "Character we've never seen before is released" then the next character is "Someone we know of".
As an example, we did not know about Ana when she came out, so she was a surprise.. while Sombra's release, was hinted, and we knew about her.
I'll show in bigger detail of heroes 22-29.
Ana (Unknown Hero)- Was unknown, aside from one character art of the Overwatch founders being younger, and some hints of Ana's Shrike skin (Which everyone thought was Sombra)
Sombra (Known Hero)- Was hinted at various times, but never actually seen before.
Orisa (Unknown) - Orisa was a complete surprise to everyone.
Doomfist (Known) - Was hinted at in a cinematic, as well as on the Numbani map.
Moira (Unknown) - No one knew of Moira prior to her release, it was found out later she made a cameo in the release of Doomfists comic as a shaded out figure.
Briggitte (Known) - Briggitte is the first character to originate from the comics, Cinematic, and actually become a hero. She was fully seen before.
Hammond/Wrecking Ball - Hammond was only ever hinted at by name on the Horizon Lunar Colony map.
[At this point in time, it seems like Blizzard is switching the roles from definitely seen heroes being released, and heard of heroes, instead of surprising us with random characters.. like hero 29...]
Ashe: Was a completely random hero, that no one knew about. This is the first time we had two unseen characters in a row. This makes me believe they won't be doing this pattern anymore.
2. Role Release
The second hero release hint, can be seen in the roles the hero plays when the come out. Not counting hero 29, Ashe, they have done this in a specific order.
So far, the heroes have been released in July, November, & March. Every time a hero came out in that month, they were a different role.
July, we had Ana, Doomfist, & Hammond. A Healer, Offense, & Tank.
November, we had Sombra, Moira, Ashe. An offensive character, Healer, and Offense.
March, we had Orisa, Briggitte & Hero 30. A tank, then a healer.
Before hero 29, the characters were being released in a pattern. They had each role release separately every month for that year (Healer, damage, tank etc). November, is the first time we got two offense heroes in a span of three years. With the release of Ashe, maybe they will not continue this pattern anymore, but it was definitely interesting, and I'm curious to see what they'll do with hero 30, which is already playable according to the devs.

Close Range = These characters are suitable up front, and close to the enemy team.
Briggitte - Briggitte's close ranged attacks, and area heal make her a contender for close range.
D.VA - Is a dive tank, who flourishes by being in the enemies face.
Doomfist - Being a melee hero, he needs to be upfront to do damage.
Genji - Gengi's melee abilities, allow him to utilize combat at close range.
Mei - Mei's fighting style is that of a Freeze & bash, she can also alternatively be a sniper.
Mercy - Mercy is suitable as a close range healer, this is evidenced with her ability to fly to heroes.
Reaper - His shotguns are damage dealers when close range, and his ult is a similar concept too.
Reinhardt - Being a shield tank, and a melee character, his arsenal is for the front lines.
Roadhog - Is a damage soaker, who can also bring enemies closer, or further away from him.
Sombra - Sombra is an infiltrator, she needs to be up close, and behind her enemies.
Tracer - Tracer is the perfect close ranged character, she'll be gone in a zip!
Winston - Is a dive tank, who can jump in on the action. His primary weapon and Ult, are also close ranged.
Middle Range = These characters are suitable in the middle of the battlefield.
Ashe - Is a secondary sniper, who also has other attacks like throwing dynamite, and her shot-gun, which require a bit of a distance, but not too far away.

Moira - Moira's play style is that of healing her group right behind them, not too far away, but not too close.
Soldier 76 -
