Warner Bros. Wrote:The first-ever live-action Pokémon movie, “POKÉMON Detective Pikachu” stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular character in the first-ever live-action movie based on the iconic face of the global Pokémon brand—one of the world’s most popular, multi-generation entertainment properties and most successful media franchises of all time.

Fans everywhere can now experience Pikachu on the big screen as never before, as a talking detective Pikachu, a Pokémon like no other. The film also showcases a wide array of beloved Pokémon characters, each with its own unique abilities and personality.

The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.
I doubt many of you haven't seen this trailer by now, so what are your thoughts on this movie? I myself am just struggling with the designs of the Pokemon, not because they're bad, but just because they're different to how Pokemon have been portrayed before. Other than that, I do like they explained in the trailer how Pikachu can only be understood by the one guy, which I like rather than him being Team Rocket's Meowth where everyone can understand him.

I'll go see this movie when it comes out, if for no reason other than curiosity of how this will actually be. Plus after watching that trailer I'm sure it'll be an interesting experience. ROFL
Yeah, since when was Pikachu, Jigglypuff and so on that fluffy? But anyway, they look OK I suppose. Them having just flat colours and smooth bodies may have looked weird for live action.

Probably won't watch in the cinema, so I might be watching very late '19 or 2020. Not something I want to see immediately, unless I find people to go with. Which I doubt.
I don't think I'm watching this either.

If anything, looks like a very desperate attempt at capturing some of Pokémon's popularity for a quick buck... but one that came about twenty years too late.

The trailer made me think of Ted meets Pokemon xD
Oh, I know Pikachu has looked chubby before and kinda does here (as in has looked bigger before compared to). The best example of what I meant was that a cinematic shot of Pokken Tournament does show Pikachu having a hairy body, after all being a mouse, but this is the first I've seen a Pikachu be as fluffy as that.

@Nightingale: Yeah, just not as rude.
When I first saw the trailer, I actually didn't realize it wasn't a fan-made parody trailer until I heard Ryan Reynolds, and even then I thought "Damn, they managed to get a hold of him for this?!" Seriously, the trailer feels like a fan-made parody of a game movie adaptation beat for beat, and I'm amazed that this actually exists. It's going to make money hand over fist because it's Pokemon, and it's disgusting.

Also, I got into an argument with some friends of mine because I think the CGI looks like garbage. It just doesn't blend in with the world! Hell, TED has better CGI than this movie, I think. I mean, dear god, did you see that Psyduck?! It looks like a hellspawn abomination!
Kill them with fire. All of them.

Seriously though, this movie looks like utter garbage. It's one of those movies you'd go see just to experience how god awful it is, and maybe get a few laughs out of it.

This is the type of movie you watch in other ways, rather than wasting your hard earned money.
Reading your post Maniak, I could see this trailer fitting well as an IGN April Fools video. Believable but just questionable enough to make you wonder.
So I have a filthy confession I must make. This will probably change the way you think of me, but I actually want to see the Detective Pikachu movie.

It might be a cute Pokemon film it might be hilariously bad, but I do want to see it!

I will be sure to give it a fair chance and I'll let you know if you guys were right in the end.

Shira and I want to see it too. I'm just wanting to see it more for curiosity right now than being hyped for a live action Pokemon movie. XD
I dont really watch tv or movies anymore, but I am certainly curious to see what they do and, more likely, how they f*** it up. Should be interesting.
I'm kinda interested in it because its a Pokemon movie! It might be comically bad, but it might be a so bad its good type of movie!
Looks more like nightmare fuel to me. Whistle :p
