And well I grew up on warm pop. What inspired you to go in to CS/programing/Game Dev? RE: Wanna Fanta, Don't You Wanna? - fantanoice - Sep 8th, 2018 Liking video games mainly. XD I used to draw Pokémon OCs as a kid and took all the art and computer classes I could in school because I liked both. Then found out there was a Uni course that could let me do both in a double degree, majoring in game development. And fwiw I really hate the term 'programmer art' because we shouldn't pigeonhole people like that. Science is suppose to be predictable results Programming is A gallon of "...but my code worked yesterday and I didn't change anything!" A cup of "My code doesn't work I don't know why, my code works I don't know why" here A mix of "++i" breaks the program some how...when it shouldn't, and no one can figure out why (true story <_<) A dash of "99 bugs in the code, 99 bugs in the code, patch one out, pass code around, 127 bugs in the code" and finally a pinch of "HTML(4) is programming" And you got your self a program. at lease that was my experience with programing. I enjoyed the programming classes I took I just couldn't see my self doing it as a job....also programming for me some what reveled too much behind the curtain for me and I was finding games less enjoyable. Whats your editor (or) IDE of choice? RE: Wanna Fanta, Don't You Wanna? - fantanoice - Sep 8th, 2018 When you get weird problems like the ++i one it's time to get the disassembler out and see what the program is actually doing. (I should really learn to read some assembly.) XD I agree that knowing how games work takes away some of the magic. It's a little sad but not a big enough deal to stop me doing it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I use Visual Studio as my IDE. For professional stuff I've used Unity and a proprietary engine. I'm currently taking a MOOC to learn UE4. RE: Wanna Fanta, Don't You Wanna? - lp0 on fire - Sep 8th, 2018 It was via a PuTTY SSH session all we had to work with was CLI Linux, Nano, GCC/G++ oh and 80 CHAR Width. Fun times.... I blame my intro to programing in more of using text editors like Geany or sublime vs an actual IDE. (But I don't program a lot soo...) Favorite Food? I hope I didn't come off like I'm 'above super hero games' it's just they really have never appealed to me &I have no idea why tbh. Just the movement / action in this one looks really fast and exciting so I'm keen to try it out when I get around to it. RE: Wanna Fanta, Don't You Wanna? - lp0 on fire - Sep 10th, 2018 It's slang for chip makers. I don't know how it started I have just seen it form Linus Tech Tips to El Reg Team Red = AMD Team Blue = Intel Team Green = Nvidia RE: Wanna Fanta, Don't You Wanna? - fantanoice - Sep 10th, 2018 Because AMD are just as good as Intel at the moment and half the price RE: Wanna Fanta, Don't You Wanna? - lp0 on fire - Sep 10th, 2018 (Sep 10th, 2018, 02:09 PM)fantanoice Wrote: I have my reservations with AMD based on their history. When I was a wee lad AMD (This is the mid to late Pentium era) was the underdog king. Their CPUs were better and cheaper then Intel, then duel core came along and they were BTFO by Intel and just made a ton of bad decisions and choices and rotted in to irrelevancy rather quickly, which is some what ironic as the 64bit architecture widely used is from AMD (even Intel's chips uses it). (My first real computer was an Athlon XP 2300+ IIRC, I wish I still had it around) Also traditionally AMD's single core performance has been lack luster vs Intel, and sure most usecases these days don't require it but if you play a lot of games back from single core days (like me) it can really hurt you. Don't get me wrong I would love to see AMD back nipping at Intel's heels again and forcing Intel to compete again, but I am just worried that AMD will repeat its course of history of shining for a few short years then spending a good decade+ in irrelevancy, and as some one who will keep around computers for a long time (and since I do IT work...) I need to know the main hardware components I use will be supported for a while, even more so in a work environment (which AMD is just starting to get back in to, but last time they just left enterprise users high and dry). But yeah, I forgot to tell you I rant Other then Fanta any other favorite drinks? RE: Wanna Fanta, Don't You Wanna? - fantanoice - Sep 11th, 2018 I'm aware of AMD's history but they're killing it at the mo with the Threadripper and Ryzen. People wanted AMD to come back because Intel were sucking without competition and that's where we are. I actually don't like Fanta all that much. I'm just stuck with the name because I've been using it for so long I like iced tea. And warm tea. And lukewarm tea. |
