RE: PlayStation 5 | Deep Earth Collection - Dragon Lord - Sep 17th, 2023

I'm definitely going to have to pick up that new blue controller. Maybe the silver one as well. Looks like my DualSense collection might end up being as big as my DualShock 4 collection after all.

RE: PlayStation 5 | Deep Earth Collection - Moonface - Sep 17th, 2023

Yeah, blue is probably highest on my list of which color to pick up from this new collection. I'd also love to see a metallic green because I think the metallic sheen would make green look really good on a controller, compared to just doing a flat matte color like a typical controller gets.

Ah a slimmer version. Looks alright I guess. I'm just fine with what I have, doubt I'll change. The question is, is there enough consoles to go around this time?

RE: PlayStation 5 | New Look for PS5 Console - Moonface - Oct 11th, 2023

I'm not gonna bother replacing my console with the new model but I've also never done that. I only replace consoles when the one I have stops working.

Something nice about the new model I saw pointed out elsewhere was that having a detachable disk drive means if the drive stops working it's easy to just replace it.

As for whether there'll be enough supply, I would imagine so since the shortages were due to that widespread chip shortage that affected everything, and that problem isn't present anymore.

I wonder if this will be the definitive design of the PS5 or if we'll see another revision a few years from now like we did with the PS3? Hmm

RE: PlayStation 5 | New Look for PS5 Console - Dragon Lord - Oct 25th, 2023

So I've seen stories popping up that suggests that the PS5 Slim may need to have an internet connection in order for the detachable disc drive to operate. If this ends up being true, that's a huge oof for the PS5 Slim. Should have just saved their time and money and just went straight into making a PS5 Pro instead of the slim.

Considering that they want the same price for this as the fat PS5 that wouldn't require an internet connection at all times to read discs, I can see the PS5 Slim selling like absolute dog water now.

It was clarified that an internet connection is only required for the initial setup of the detachable disc drive. Once that is done it will not need an internet connection to operate. Wink

That's good then. Would have been stupid if it was actually the way it was rumored at first. Now if only they would fix the stupid pricing, though obviously that's not going to happen.

RE: PlayStation 5 | New Look for PS5 Console - Moonface - Oct 26th, 2023

I'm not surprised the new models aren't cheaper, only because it was just over a year ago that Sony increased the price of the PS5 in multiple regions. Making the new models cheaper would bring into question why the existing model remains at the higher price it was put to, and maybe I'm wrong but normally doesn't a console get a price decrease prior to a new model even being announced so that it helps to shift that old model inventory? I get the feeling that the current PS5 model not having that is a factor for the prices not going down on the new models.

RE: PlayStation 5 | New Look for PS5 Console - Dragon Lord - Oct 27th, 2023

I would think that the less amount of materials needed to build it would at least lower the cost a little bit. Especially since there's a high chance they may end up using cheaper parts for these slim models compared to the original models.

I just don't know if I see these doing too well commercially, especially with increasing rumors of a PS5 Pro releasing in 2024, with greatly increased specs. I imagine most people would just decide to wait for that instead.

RE: PlayStation 5 | New Look for PS5 Console - Moonface - Oct 27th, 2023

Oh I wouldn't be surprised if the new model is cheaper to make too (especially since usually slim models are made because the console can be made better and cheaper). I just think a lot of the factors in my previous post might be a reason why Sony didn't put the price down. What sucks is I bet when the price does go down it'll just revert back to what the old price was, like when companies put stuff on sale but jack the price up beforehand so the regular price becomes the sale price.

I kinda feel like it too soon considering the PS5 was crippled by the chip shortage so badly? I do wonder if the slim will actually flop now or maybe they are banking on the slow adoption of the PS5 to benefit with the slim being much cheaper to produce?

RE: PlayStation 5 | New Look for PS5 Console - ShiraNoMai - Oct 29th, 2023

We're coming up to PS5's 4th year pretty soon, so this isn't too much of a surprise. PS5s are finally reasonably attainable as of last year, and with the holiday season coming up, it's a ripe time to get new adopters in.

I don't know if the PS5 adoption has been that slow overall, since the most recent data shows it has sold an estimated 42.23 million units lifetime worldwide. The PS4 is currently sitting at an estimate of 117+ million units since it launched, and the PS3 has sold 87.4 million units as of September 2023. I don't know when the PS4 model revisions happened in terms of units sold but it probably isn't going to be far off what the sold units are for the PS5 currently with this new model coming out.

RE: PlayStation 5 | New Look for PS5 Console - Moonface - Nov 7th, 2023

lol, so Sony is removing the ability to upload content onto Twitter/X via the Share button (turns out on PS5 it's actually called the Create button, but I'm still calling it the Share button) as of November 13, which means now the only option left to upload directly from the console is YouTube. ROFL
I wonder if Sony will try to overhaul the system for sharing content now that 2/3 of the options it had have been stripped (granted, Facebook went away as an option during the PS4 if we want to be technical) or if they're just gonna leave it. I know the PS App can be used to retrieve the content too but that doesn't serve as an option in the Share menu so that's still gonna be looking really slim in a week. XD
