Advice for getting dairy-free out in public that you didn't ask for: look for vegan menus! One of my close friends is deathly allergic to dairy, so she has to very much go out of her way to avoid it. The biggest culprit tends to be butter, because all restaurants default to using it to flavor dishes and grease pans. But vegan dishes, which are made without the use of animal products, will guaranteed be dairy-free!

Indeed - that's certainly true Smile ! And Asian restaurants are generally mostly dairy-free by default, since their cuisine doesn't include much dairy. There's lots of wheat-free stuff too - although, soy sauce is one thing I'd have to be careful about (unless it's gluten-free soy sauce!)

My work project is coming along nicely, and I've just been putting some of the finishing touches to it this week. Although, I won't be doing any more on it tomorrow or on Monday, since my girlfriend is coming up for an extended weekend! We're planning to go to Manchester, to visit an illusions museum.

Not too bad! Fairly slow week and I've kept up with my daily 5km walks, and have been hitting 7-13k steps a day. Happy with my progress. ^^

RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - ShiraNoMai - Feb 9th, 2025

That's great news, @Little Matcha Girl ! I'm only doing half of that myself, but I've been pretty limited because of ongoing lower body issues that have plagued me over the past year or so. Stinks cuz I'd like to go further sometimes but I know I shouldn't overdo it cuz then I won't be able to walk at all, and that's no fun Sad

Is there a specific route you go every time, or are you treadmilling and I'm not realizing? LOL

To be fair, my walks tend to be more for mental wellness/clarity/grass-touching than exercise. The calorie loss is just an added benefit.

Also very happy to hear your dad is finally getting seen for treatment, EL. Genuinely fantastic news, and although it's not the greatest, it's better to tackle now and treat rather than ignore and suffer more, ya know? Hope things keep looking up for y'all.

my week has been rather boring and uneventful. which, to be honest, is what i'd prefer. things have been rather peaceful for the first time in a long time and i hope it stays that way.

Had a crazy busy weekend at work and despite me having only 4 hour sleep, was able to keep myself working hard to try and manage the shopfloor. We would've been royally screwed if I had to do home shopping, so glad I wasn't ordered to.

Yeah thanks Shira. He can still be a bit of a problem even after all this, my sister invited him yesterday to go out and we did. There's going to be an assessment later on in March to monitor how he's getting on.

@azalea : Ah that's good you've had a week like that, let's you at least unwind in your own way. Grin

RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Moonface - Feb 19th, 2025

*sigh*

I have multiple projects that all need to have progress shown by today or tomorrow, and I currently have barely anything. I'm trying to animate a logo in After Effects right now and I can't even get my logo to display correctly even when using online tutorials, so I literally can't work on the damn thing which means I get to go to class in two hours with zero work to show. Meh
My last few days have just been having everything in my mind planned out, but then nothing executing remotely close to right when it comes to doing any of it...

RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Mr EliteL - Feb 22nd, 2025

Yeesh, hope you got those done Moony, or if not then perhaps allowed extra time or something like that. I hate it when stuff like that happens, knowing what you want but unable to because the stupid programs aren't helping. >.<

Work has been whatever, oh right, why do humans have to be so annoying, can't read, and not use their common sense. Ugh!

Actually went to London after work today, haven't been since late October last year. Boo didn't come across Balfour Betty anywhere. Anyway, I was there because of the Pop-Up store Genshin was doing called Teyvat Goods, which was only going to be open for 4 days, happened sometime last year as well but can't when and I didn't go then. This time I did and well, if they do it again hope it's a slightly bigger venue, got myself some merch though so I was fine with it. I walked there after the train, about 30 minutes because I was following Google Maps and one route was blocked off so had to use another, also made a few wrong turns as I kept overestimating how far to walk on one street when I looked away from the map and assumed it was a certain corner. LOL The walk back was easier, though did do a wrong turn again. Also damn them graffiti artists be crazy, leaving a lower part of a big building clear and graffitiing up towards the top of it. XD

RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - ShiraNoMai - Feb 23rd, 2025

Walking with Google Maps is very odd, but it's at least consistent with how it works with driving: it always makes it hard to tell the distance from a visual standpoint. I try and just rely on the numbers it provides because then at least I can make a better judgement than the stupid app suddenly zooming way the fuck in for no apparent reason to make it seem like it's super close as you approach. >.<

I have a pretty good headway on my work, which is good. I've set an ultimatum to be done with my portfolio in its entirety by my 1 year anniversary mark (April 30). Definitely feasible, definitely feels way more attainable right now. My resume is presumably done (I want it verified by a few people first), my business cards are 90% done (just tweaking and they need printing), and my website is finally making itself useable for me to start filling properly. It's the thing that needs the most work done, mostly because it involves a lot of organization and presentation (both of which I severely underestimated in scope). I hit a wall when the web builder I was using was being strangely uncooperative (it's still a bit unwieldy but it's workable; it'll just need cleaning up near the end).

I also got hit with a possible job opportunity? My friends, whom I made their wedding stationery for, referred the person they got to make wedding champagne glasses for to myself, cuz apparently they really liked the logo I made for them a lot. They actually reached out and inquired about a project. I spent the rest of the day in panic mode and at 3AM was finally able to send a response email that covered everything. I haven't heard back yet, and I may follow it up with an addendum cuz I accidentally sent it from my personal email and not the one they emailed it to (I have my professional email forward to my personal email so I don't miss it; I didn't know it didn't forward back lol)

Well, my sister's back home for a bit. She'll be here for a week; then going to the USA; then coming back for another week, before she returns to her own home.

I was hoping to play some Minecraft with her (and sort out the problem she's been having on her own laptop) - but sadly, she didn't bring it with her! But regardless, it's been nice to see her Smile .

You went to London after work?! What time did you get off to make it there at a reasonable enough time for the trip to be worthwhile? Blink
Or were you not bothered about the length of time you had to spend in London so long as it was enough to visit that Genshin store?

Ooh! Since it's probably been and done by now, where in the USA did she go to? ^_^

Spent the entire morning at a local spring cleaning sale at a park that's in our city, where any regular folk were able to pay for a plot to sell whatever stuff they wanted to get rid of. Didn't go there to shop but actually to sell, because man we've had so much old furniture and stuff sitting in our house that we didn't want anymore but couldn't find anyone who wanted it. Loaded it all up into a transit van we hired, which I drove and having never driven anything bigger than my current car it was a little nerve-wracking but I didn't kill anyone so it's all good. Grin
We managed to sell like, half the stuff we took, and anything left over we dropped off at a local charity shop as donations before we checked the van back in. In the end we more or less made as much money as the van and plot cost us, so we only broke even but I didn't really care about making a profit on the stuff; we just figured it was a good place to try and find some buyers. Funnily enough the one thing @ShiraNoMai's mother told us no one would buy and we should just throw it out was the first thing we sold. ROFL

RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Moonface - Mar 18th, 2025

Nothing like starting the day off getting chewed out at work because management decided to take the one time I said no to covering a shift and blew it up as if I never agreed to covering any shifts while my coworker was out on bereavement leave. Furthermore, they keep scheduling me later than I'm available to be in until and then decided to just claim I always leave early and never stay my full shift when technically I'm leaving on time, they just don't want to actually do my schedule correctly.

Honestly it's ridiculous and I'm going to probably talk to my store manager about it because this isn't the first time shit gets spread about me that is blown way out of proportion. Meh

RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Mr EliteL - Mar 20th, 2025

What the actual f--bunch of moron(s), whoever is making you seem like that. Hope you get that sorted out with the store manager.

I had a first time situation in my 9-10 years working there and it was down to a price change of all things, where there's an offer on for a product that is basically should be incorrect. A mix & match 2 for £3.50 when the original and previous price is £1.50, and the offer is to be on for a year according to the gun so from today until same day next year. Yeah, needed to be brought up and may have to manually change the price back, I just couldn't as I don't know how and usually the managers do that, did get the highest ranking colleague in to log it as there wasn't any store or my area managers in at the time.

Had my step-granddad's funeral on Monday. Wasn't a lot of us, some couldn't make it and really most of the people who did know him, but were younger went before him anyway, think there's only two left of his generation and I assume they couldn't as they mentioned it was difficult for them to attend my Nan's in '21. One grandson of the other side attended, their father and mother who is my step-aunt also attended. Went smoothly anyway.

Oh I know for definite it's at least my grocery manager spreading shit because the assistant grocery manager hasn't once asked me about coming in on a day off and had me say no to them. But I suspect the AGM is probably part of the crew bringing up my leaving "early" because they can't fix a schedule. Rolleyes

Wasn't it a while ago he passed, or am I mistaking them with someone else? Unsure

RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Mr EliteL - Mar 22nd, 2025

That grocery manager is just...ugh, is he like this with anyone else do you know, badgering on to others about shifts, not helping out and just being a general pain as if his position gives him power to not listen to anyone under him, and so on?

Should've been him you're thinking of, almost 2 months ago now his passing was. Last one would've been my cat which was after 3 more passings before her too but those were back in '21 and '22.

RE: How Was Your Day/Week? - Kyng - Mar 23rd, 2025

My week's not been too bad.

On Tuesday, I had a nice visit to Derby with my girlfriend (perhaps not the most exciting place in the world, but it's convenient for both of us to get to Tongue ). We paid a visit to the Museum of Making - which had quite a wide variety of exhibits relating to Derby's industrial past, and quite an impressive model railway!

Also, my sister was at home for much of the week - so, we played a couple of the old Harry Potter games, for old times' sake. She went back home this morning, though - so, I'll have to wait until she comes back to finish them!
