RE: General Game Chat - Mr EliteL - Nov 21st, 2024

For a second I was thinking Niel was also a CoD player and it was beef between two players, but ah, he's the founder of the telecom company. Still great though. Just one of those don't start something you can't finish even if kidding/in anger, because damn the other party is definitely willing to finish it for you. XD

RE: General Game Chat - ShiraNoMai - Nov 22nd, 2024

Feels like a skit out of a movie or show LOL

Anyone review the Game Awards nominees? Feeling like UFO 50, Another Crab's Treasure and Satisfactory got snubbed quite a bit Errm

RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Nov 26th, 2024

Yeah, I feel like there were some games that got overlooked for The Game Awards too. Another Crab's Treasure could have got into either of the Indie focused categories I think, but I don't know where else UFO 50 could have shown up. It isn't focused on any particular genre to really go into the majority of the other categories, and I wonder how many of the 100 voting bodies have managed to actually fully play through all of the titles it offers to judge it properly as a potential GotY contender.

Because I know some folk here are into Yu-Gi-Oh, I just saw this leak for the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection that shows the entire game list:
  • Duel Monsters
  • Duel Monsters II: Dark Duel Stories
  • Monster Capsule GB
  • Dark Duel Stories
  • Duel Monsters 4: Battle of Great Duelist
  • Dungeon Dice Monsters
  • The Eternal Duelist Soul
  • Duel Monsters 6 Expert 2
  • The Sacred Cards
  • Reshef of Destruction
  • Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel
  • World Championship Tournament 2004
  • Destiny Board Traveler
  • 7 Trials to Glory: World Championship Tournament 2005

Yes! I was actually planning to get that YGO title when it releases. From what I've heard it's a remaster of all these games too, which would be great since some of them were on like the GBA anyway.

RE: General Game Chat - Little Matcha Girl - Dec 4th, 2024

I've been having a great time with Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life lately! Worried about the ending since I know what's going to happen, but I still want to get there and am really excited. My backlog has gotten a little too big and I've been playing this game for months lol.. would be good to move on to another one, finally. q_q

RE: General Game Chat - Maniakkid25 - Dec 4th, 2024

So I just found out about Marvel Rivals. I feel like I've been out of the loop with this one, but if you don't know, it's gonna be a Hero Shooter. Yes, just a few months after Concord, we are getting another Hero Shooter. Who's got money on how long this will last?

But seriously, it's gonna be F2P, and I'm thinking of trying it out, if only for the memes. It's gonna have a D.Va clone in it (Peni Parker), and, I mean, I gotta know the play style of Jeff the Land Shark. ...What's that? You don't know who Jeff the Land Shark is? Well, I'm glad to shed you of that ignorance, because he's is an adorable little creature, and I want to take him home with me. And maybe this time, I'll be able to play the game before it crashes and burns!

Not that it's necessarily a hero shooter, but speaking of live service shooter style games that don't last long, I saw that Foamstars is no longer getting updates after January 17, 2025: https://www.square-enix-games.com/en_US/documents/notice-regarding-foamstars-season-update

Granted, it isn't a full shut down but to me a live service game no longer receiving updates is a first sign that there isn't enough revenue being made from it to warrant spending more time and resources on it.

@Little Matcha Girl: If you want to share your beefy backlog, you might be interested in this thread we have: Your Gaming Backlog ^_^

RE: General Game Chat - Maniakkid25 - Dec 6th, 2024

I have since been able to try the practice mode of Marvel Rivals, and can confirm its basically Overwatch. But, there are some unique combinations of heroes in it. Punisher is Soldier 76 with a dash of Bastion, Psylocke is Sombra meets Genji, Star-lord is mainly Tracer but with Reaper's Ult as, like, a skill he can just use (?!), and so on. Surprisingly, Bruce Banner is actually the D.Va clone, not Peni Parker. Jeff the Land Shark? He places like Mercy, but without the revive (that power is with Rocket Raccoon), so that's neat.

Oh, and there is one unique thing about the game; there are unique "team-up" abilities that can be gained if specific heroes are on the same team. My favorite is Wolverine and Hulk, because Hulk can chuck Wolverine. They even call it the "Fastball Special" (if you play as Wolverine. For some stupid reason, Hulk calls it the "Gamma Fastball").

Overall, I'd say that if you want to play Overwatch, but don't want to support Activizzard (which is perfectly understandable), you now have an alternative. As long as you don't mind supporting NetEase, the Chinese developer that made it. They used to run the Overwatch servers in China, until they were shut down last year. Funny, that...

RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Dec 7th, 2024

Doubt that I'd play it since the main reason I stopped playing Overwatch in the first place was I simply just moved on from it, rather than being turned away from how OW2 turned out or the reports about Activision Blizzard. That said I do think it sounds like it has some neat ideas behind it that might help it do well in the saturated hero shooter genre, rather than it just phoning it in because of the IP it's using.

In out of the blue news today, The Thing Remastered got shadow dropped onto all platforms and I can't help but wonder how many people are going to miss that news. The marketing for that game has already been rather low-key as it is and I've constantly seen people commenting with wishes for changes to the game that have been confirmed as happening already, so even if people do see the game is now out there's a high chance they'll think it's improved nothing but the visuals and might skip out on it if the original gameplay left a bad taste in their mouth. Shadow dropping games feels like it should be reserved for when the game is first announced at all or when there's a ton of anticipation around the game to make a sudden release create a ton of excitement. I worry this release though is just quietly pushing it out the door to die in the cold. Unsure

GamesRadar+ | Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto found it hard to watch his own kids playtest Super Mario 64: "Geez, does this kid have any brains?"

GamesRadar Wrote:
"Seeing him try dozens of times, over and over, to get up this unclimbable hill, as a parent I couldn't help but think, 'Geez, does this kid have any brains?'" Miyamoto laughed. Thankfully, the children's abilities (or lack thereof) aside, the playtest had been a success. "Afterwards we asked the children what they thought of the game, and they said it was fun, and that they wanted to play it again."

Just saw this and thought it was a Hard Drive article at first, but saw it was serious and felt like sharing it. Tongue

RE: General Game Chat - ShiraNoMai - Dec 24th, 2024

As amusing as I found this, I can't help but think that they don't do this form of playtesting anymore, and have been judging more adult assumptions of what kids would think rather than utilize actual children for their testing. Unless I'm somehow wrong and kids have been getting raised to be even more thick than 20 years ago. Errm

Nah, I think that older games probably lacked extensive playtesting (Rayman notoriously had none at all hence why it's so hard) and were also made hard for the purpose of boosting game rentals. The longer it is to beat, the more you have to rent it, and you either spend more money renting it multiple times or just decide to buy the game outright instead, whereas if you could rent games still today so many could be beaten in the rental period.

Fittingly while we're on the subject of game toughness, a streamer by the name of Acai just beat Guitar Hero 2 on Permadeath with 100% completion, without missing a single note. To put it into perspective, there are 74 songs and a grand total of 67,804 notes.

RE: General Game Chat - Maniakkid25 - Dec 27th, 2024

Honestly, for Acai, that doesn't seem that impressive, given the charts he plays on Clone Hero. But, this is an endurance challenge, much like Bladder of Steel. The ones I'm most impressed by him FC'ing (FC is Full Combo, meaning not a single note was missed and the multiplier never dropped) are Six, The Light That Blinds, and, of course, Jordan. Also, the game has a notorious Early Game Hell, given some of the, quite frankly, ridiculous shit that's in the low tiers (looking straight at you, You Really Got Me by Van Halen). So, harder than it sounds, but given I've seen him 100% Satch Boogie at 210% speed, I've seen him do harder.

Unless there's a strat with pausing the game that helps with Permadeath mode, I would assume the Bladder of Steel challenge could be done alongside the Permadeath one without really adding any extra challenge to the latter? Unsure

Also, PSA to everyone who plays games on PC with Windows 11 as their OS: Windows Update 24H2, a currently optional update, is being reported as causing issues with multiple games, including but not necessarily limited to Final Fantasy XV, Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin's Creed Origins, and Path of Exile 2.

RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Jan 18th, 2025

So who else here knew about the Duracell PS3 Extension that attaches onto the end of a PS3 Slim? I've never seen this before and randomly stumbled upon it. It looks neat but also it takes up so much extra space just to charge a single controller.
