RE: General Game Chat - Mr EliteL - Jan 21st, 2025 I never knew about it, but yeah despite fitting really well with the PS3 Slim there's just so much space being used. Looking at my current TV stand it would've been the entire length of it whereas my Super Slim (I know it doesn't go on there) takes up like 40% space length wise. RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Mar 5th, 2025 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 | Reveal Trailer Probably not a surprise if you were aware there was going to be a Tony Hawk announcement, but I just wanted to share this in case anyone didn't see this yet and I was curious if anyone here was interested and/or has ever played any of the Tony Hawk games or not? RE: General Game Chat - Maniakkid25 - Mar 5th, 2025 I have played the series. I also saw the announcement where they said there WASN'T going to be a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4, so this just makes them dirty liars. Not surprising, given it's Activizzard, but still, dirty, dirty liars. RE: General Game Chat - Mr EliteL - Mar 5th, 2025 Can't remember if I played a demo of a Tony Skater game or not, I can vaguely remember having a go at some skateboard game but that was so so long ago I don't remember which game it could've been. Still, if there was an announcement of no game was going be made, but then it was then hey, gotta give it to the fans that would be after a new Tony Skater game, they got a treat I guess. RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Mar 7th, 2025 (Mar 5th, 2025, 07:30 PM)Maniakkid25 Wrote:My take on that article is Activision at the time preferred Vicarious Visions assist with CoD rather than work on another Tony Hawk game, but that another Tony Hawk game wasn't off the table entirely down the road. However, then I remembered how Activision was practically throwing everyone into the CoD machine (Toys for Bob managed to become an independent studio and escape that fate) and how at the time that was happening I expected that was because they cared for none of their other IP anymore because nothing was making massive bank for them. I'm wondering if the Xbox purchase led to switching course from that or not. ![]() Talking about Activision's other IP, did anyone see they were doing marketing/interest testing on social media by using AI generated images of some of their games such as Guitar Hero and Crash Bandicoot? I can't say I'm gonna trust the quality of a game when AI slop is being used to make an initial pitch. ![]() (Mar 5th, 2025, 08:04 PM)Mr EliteL Wrote:I never played a Tony Hawk game growing up, despite owning other skateboarding games (anyone here ever play Street Skater?). I own the 1+2 remakes, but only played a crack baby amount of it. ![]() Oh, for anyone who does possibly have an interest in THPS 3+4, the campaign mode for 4 is being changed to now be time-based challenges: Kotaku I'm hoping they change that because I've seen nothing but negative responses to that change, particularly because the levels in THPS4 are apparently much bigger than the other games so a two-minute timer is going to make just exploring those maps fully a complete ball ache. ![]() RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Mar 16th, 2025 Tom's Hardware | U.S. Atari parts store still open after 41 years, has spent $100K+ designing new parts — last original Atari hardware launched 32 years ago Tom's Hardware Wrote: The website itself is a sight to behold, being possibly one of the oldest looking modern-day functioning websites: https://www.best-electronics-ca.com/ This place stands alongside that one remaining Blockbuster Video that's somewhere in the U.S.. I wonder if there's any other singular specialty stores like this that are surviving the test of time serving a long defunct service/product? ![]() RE: General Game Chat - ShiraNoMai - Mar 18th, 2025 As a lover of preserving video game history, the fact that they still are at their craft to maintain long-forgotten hardware is such an amazing feat to behold. I hope they continue to thrive and find business. RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Mar 19th, 2025 Because I know there's some who are fans of Xenosaga here, I just saw that the Japanese exclusive mobile game, Xenosaga: Pied Piper, has been preserved by fans and a full translation patch is currently in progress. I also saw a comment on this news that shared this page going over the differences between the console versions and the DS versions of the first two games, for anyone interested: https://yzak.nu/cfud/xenosaga/ds.html RE: General Game Chat - Maniakkid25 - Apr 14th, 2025 So I just found out today that a new Marathon game is coming out, and I don't think I've seen my interest in a game die this quickly without the phrase "Survival Crafting" being involved. So, a little context. Back before they made their name with Halo, they were already a Mac gaming darling with their game series Marathon. This was before their acquisition by Microsoft, mind. Marathon is an FPS in the vein of Doom, and its a solid game. Not up there with the greats like Doom and Duke Nukem 3D and those sorts of games, but definitely no slouch in the quality department. Well, turns out Bungie is developing a new Marathon game, and I got excited. "*gasp*" I naively said. "Maybe this is the fabled Marathon remake?" And then I saw two words on the wikipedia page on it, and my excitement immediately turned into ennui. "Extraction Shooter" So, not only is the new Marathon game going to be multiplayer only (which, to be fair, Marathon was an early LAN multiplayer game), but it's going to be an Escape From Tarkov clone, where you get dumped on a map and told "hey, get to this point, and try not to die." Sure, Bungie. Hey, don't you already have a hugely successful multiplayer only game named Destiny 2? Is this a Sony mandate? I bet it's a Sony mandate. You're not the first person I've seen question why they used the Marathon name for this game though; it's basically a new IP using the identity of something else to try and score cheap interest points. I could see the game being a Sony mandate for sure, given that period where they wanted every developer under their umbrella to be making some form of live service game. The only thing that makes me question that though is Marathon isn't a PS5 exclusive, which I feel Sony would've wanted if they were pushing for the game to be made. ![]() RE: General Game Chat - Moonface - Apr 21st, 2025 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Announcement Tomorrow Bethesda has teased that all will be revealed tomorrow at 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm GMT in regards to something about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The stream will air via YouTube. It has been rumored for a while that the game is getting a remake or remaster, and that the game may be shadow dropped alongside its official announcement. Not sure if anyone here is an Oblivion fan or not, but wanted to share it just in case since this is probably gonna be a big deal. Update: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has been announced and was also released immediately at $50 for the standard version and $60 for the deluxe version. RE: General Game Chat - Maniakkid25 - Apr 29th, 2025 So I just found out that the PS3 has a hidden Debug menu for its PS2 emulation, and that fixed my bad emulation for Devil Summoner in a heartbeat! So, for anyone out there with a PS3 and some PS2 classics that are giving them a terrible time, here's the trick: Press the PS button to open the PS3 pause menu. Hold L1, R1, Square, and D-pad Left for 10 full seconds, then hit Start (you do not have to keep holding the other buttons when you reach for the start button). This will open a new menu that lets you fiddle with emulation settings so that you can play your games properly. I'm very pleased I managed to find this. I randomly stumbled on it because I was looking at an old post that linked to the Speedrun.com page for DDS, and they had a page on it! Now, I can play my Megaten games on the PS3 without the emulation being dodgy! YAY! I didn't think there were any digital PS2 games that weren't available to play across PS3, PS4 and PS5 and that if they had issues that was just down to how Sony chose to handle the port. ![]() RE: General Game Chat - Maniakkid25 - Apr 29th, 2025 It might be available for the rare PS3 that can play PS2 games (they did that for a short while in the PS3's life cycle; those are rare, though, and basically involved putting an entire PS2 inside the PS3), but I know it's available for digital releases. Keep in mind, though, that the PS2 classics on PS3 are NOT compatible with PS4 or PS5; the PS2 games released on those consoles are completely separate releases and are not compatible with each other. It's weird, and stupid, and I hate it, but that's what it is. Now I'm curious if any got re-released onto PS4/PS5 but due to technically being a different product weren't free to those who had bought the games on PS3. In some side news, for any Titanfall fans apparently there was a game set in that universe in the works at Respawn, but EA announced today that game is cancelled and that they're laying off 100 people at Respawn, plus another 200 people across other EA studios. ![]() |
