RE: Nintendo Direct - February 13th, 2019 - Moonface - Feb 15th, 2019 This was a far better Direct than I was expecting it to be. Given that Fire Emblem was being specifically mentioned prior to the Direct, I thought a large chunk of the time was going to be dedicated to that game. Super Mario Maker 2 was a great opener, and I'm really excited for the new Box Boy game! Smash shouldn't have even been mentioned, given Nintendo just said the obvious "There's an update coming" and nothing else. At least show us Joker gameplay instead of dedicating 44 seconds to literally nothing, which Nintendo even uploaded as its own video on their YouTube channel. Captain Toad is a definite purchase for me now they've added co-op. I wanted it anyway, but that addition has made it a must get for me now because I can play with Shira! Fire Emblem: Three Houses looks like if you became a Hogwarts teacher but Slytherin disappeared to go be the actual bad party in the game lurking in the shadows somewhere. Tetris 99 was unexpected but if I had an active Switch Online subscription I'd be all over that because I love Tetris, and there's no reason not to try Tetris 99 when it's free. Dead by Daylight took far too much of a graphical hit to justify porting it to Switch. They should have given it a new art style that would work better for the Switch or just not do it. Although visuals aside, I feel like no one really cares enough about the game any more to make the Switch version a profitable venture anyway. Hellblade was an unexpected announcement but it was nice to see a game like that coming to Switch. Assassin's Creed III being called the remastered version for Switch is a joke. The frame rate in the Direct alone was abysmal and as a first impression that is going to turn any potential buyer right the fuck off. To go so far as to claim it remastered though is ridiculous when the entire thing has been clearly downgraded to run on Switch (and it doesn't even appear to run well). Astral Chain went from having my curiosity to grabbing my attention the second they threw Platinum Games at it and announced the director as someone who worked on Nier: Automata. Link's Awakening was a good ending and I like the art style. I never played the original so I'll definitely grab this version. RE: Nintendo Direct - February 13th, 2019 - Dragon Lord - Feb 15th, 2019 lol @ DBD on Switch. That game is dead as fuck on every other platform already, why even waste resources on porting it to the Switch? Can't wait to see how badly it bombs. Link's Awakening caught my attention until I saw that art style. Gross. Astral Chain looks like it could have had potential, but in the end looks mediocre at best. The character models are uuuuuuugly. The only thing that was of worth in this Direct was Oninaki, but thankfully that's also coming to PS4 so I don't have to worry about it being trapped on the Switch like Octopath. I'm always up for more games from Tokyo RPG Factory (creators of I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear, for those unaware). RE: Nintendo Direct - February 13th, 2019 - Mr EliteL - Feb 18th, 2019 Glad it wasn't mainly on Fire Emblem, and had more to show. Super Mario Maker 2 is good I suppose, but something I'm still not interested in much. Ultimate getting only an update announcement, I was expecting more, but we did get a glimpse of Joker in some form. At I least I thought that was his Smash character model. Captain Toad getting co-op is a good way to give more to the Switch version. Crafted World is still looking great, will have to try the demo soon. Fire Emblem: Three Houses seems OK, I mean the fact it isn't getting three separate versions is an immediate plus for me. So if there's more trailers, footage, updates (that aren't confirming multiple versions) and what have you may keep me interested and enough for me to want the game. Daemon X Machina was the biggest surprise to me, from what I mentioned in Last Game Played. Yeah when watching the direct I wasn't thinking it was anything special, but after trying the demo I want to see more. Bunch of ports for the Switch I'm not interested in. Although Final Fantasy 7 and 9 being playable on Switch I suppose is a good then. Another chance to try them out. Astral Chain, eh. Not too bothered, but wouldn't mind seeing more of that later on. RE: Nintendo Direct - February 13th, 2019 - Moonface - Feb 18th, 2019 I highly doubt Three Houses will get different versions, given they announced a Collector's Edition and it would be ridiculous to put up pre-orders for it to then later down the line say "Oh actually we had this other version and the one you got contains only this stuff". @DL: I'm going to guess the cel-shaded art style is what turns you off? It's the only thing I can really see as a subjective negative for the models, since apart from that there's nothing wrong with them from a design standpoint: https://www.siliconera.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Astral-Chain.jpg RE: Nintendo Direct - February 13th, 2019 - Dragon Lord - Feb 19th, 2019 The game in general just doesn't look very good to me. Not Jump Force levels of awful, but not on the good side either. The game play doesn't look all that interesting either, from what we've seen of it. Just looks like a terrible version of God Eater. |
