Eh, I think I'd listen to pretty much anything as long as the songs grab me one way or another. I have one song or two by many an author because that's the only things I like on their whole discography.
But then, there would be bands that would blow me away so much, I just can't live without anymore... like Within Temptation. Man, I adore Within Temptation, and I can't recommend them enough!

Call Me When You're Sober might be a good one to start with. Off the top of my head that one has a tone similar to Within Temptation. Been a while since I listened to both groups so I'm trying to work from an old memory.
To save it derailing the LBP thread, do you remember anything about what the game looked like that you mistook for LBP? I'm curious if we can figure out what game it was.
