RE: Rayman (Series) - Moonface - Oct 9th, 2023

I don't think the guy being a creative director for Mario + Rabbids will automatically mean the Rabbids will show up in a Rayman game if he makes it. However that game is actually decent and the Rabbids weren't annoying to me in it for the time I spent with it (I never finished it and need to go back to it) so at least if they did show up they might not be as awful as they were when they were first created.

I'm curious if the Rayman DLC for Spark of Hope is themed more around Rayman stuff, Mario stuff, or Rabbids stuff. It could be a good way to get a feel for what a new Rayman game could look like visually if any map elements were based off of it.

It's rare to see a fan remake of a game in Unreal Engine that actually looks good, but this guy has managed to do a really good job at remaking Rayman 3 in the engine without losing all of the art style of the original:

Dang watching this makes me wanna go play Rayman 3 again for nostalgia. =3

It looks really nice on a stand-alone, but up against it's original form I feel it leans a little too heavy on the realism. Seeing all the work the creator put into remaking the whole thing in his dev logs makes me appreciate it that much more though, it's SO good.

Yeah, I think the thing that always trips me up with remakes like this is the amount of foliage that gets added. While it makes sense, for some reason it also brings in so much detail that it becomes a delicate balancing act of not making it turn the scene realistic. Maybe if the lighting and detailing was a bit more like say, Mario Odyssey it would capture the right feel the creator is trying to go for.

Ubisoft Confirms New Rayman Project Currently in "Exploration Phase"
After rumors started spreading yesterday about an unannounced Rayman remake project in development at Ubisoft Milan, Ubisoft have confirmed to Eurogamer that a new Rayman project is currently in the "exploration phase" at its Montpelier and Milan studios, with Michael Ancel working on the project as a consultant.

Ubisoft Wrote:
We are pleased to confirm Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan have recently started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand. The project is still in its early stages, and we will share more details later. As creator of the Rayman brand, Michel Ancel is being consulted to ensure consistency within the universe.

Ancel's involvement on the project has been unsettling for employees however, with the reasons best summarized by Eurogamer:

Eurogamer Wrote:
Ancel left Ubisoft in 2020 after 30 years with the company, allegedly following an investigation into employee complaints accusing him of toxic leadership - with his behaviour said to have been so bad additional managers were called in to act as intermidiaries between Ancel and his team. Ancel publicly dismissed the report as "fake news", but Insider Gaming claims his recent involvement as a consultant on the new Rayman project has "cast a less-than-popular light" on its development and "raised some concerns among team members".

I'd be down for a remake of the original Rayman but I think if it doesn't use the gameplay of Origins/Legends that it'll feel like a step backwards. It'd be sick if the remake was in the style of Rayman 2 or 3 but there's no way that's happening.

RE: Rayman (Series) - Mr EliteL - Oct 24th, 2024

Good to hear something is in the works, but I'll try not to set any high expectations. As long as it's not a remake that is, just tired of seeing remakes after remakes being created these days. Although I suppose I might accept Rayman 2/3 anyway, but if it's a new game then a 3D one, just not Origins/Legends. I only got Origins and that was enough for me, and absolutely must not involve Rabbids in anyway whatsoever.

RE: Rayman (Series) - Moonface - Oct 28th, 2024

With how old Rayman 1 is I wouldn't mind a remake of it, but now that I think about it a good amount of the levels in Origins were inspired by the worlds of Rayman 1.

Jibberish Jungle = Dream Forest
Desert of Dijiridoos = Band Land
Gourmand Land = Candy Chateau
Mystical Pique = Blue Mountains

Remaking the first game runs the risk of feeling like a repeat of Origins but if it tries to stick closer to how the original game is it'll all possibly feel lesser when compared to the Origins inspired versions of the worlds.

Ideally it would be a new game using that really good 3D model of Rayman that was made for the Mario Rabbids DLC. A new 3D game with that style would probably look really cool.
