Ghost of Yōtei - Moonface - Sep 25th, 2024
Developer: Sucker Punch
Platforms: PlayStation 5 Release Date: 2025 In 1603, a new Ghost named Atsu sets out on a journey in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, an area filled with sprawling grasslands, snowy tundras, and unexpected dangers. Was not expecting this to be revealed during today's State of Play, and I wondered what this game was going to actually be when the streamer I was watching the SoP through noted that the date of this games setting is hundreds of years apart from Ghost of Tsushima (that game takes place in 1274). I did always wonder what could really be done for a sequel to GoT, but it never crossed my mind to just do another game in the same universe but completely separated from GoT. I'm excited to see more and intrigued with what this game will do with the character/story that fits the vibe of being "the Ghost" but without retreading what GoT did. RE: Ghost of Yōtei - ShiraNoMai - Sep 26th, 2024 Woo! Glad to see Sucker Punch are continuing the series as, well, a series. Definitely happy they chose to jump time periods/different characters. A series of just different legends from Japan's coolest historical eras
RE: Ghost of Yōtei - Moonface - Oct 2nd, 2024 I'm interested to see if Jin's story will live on in this game as some sort of legendary tale that went on to inspire others throughout history to become "ghosts". If the main character of this game is referred to by anyone or herself as such, then that surely has to be the case otherwise it'll be a little odd that two samurai in Japan in different time periods decide to coin themselves with the same term. ![]() A recent interview with the creative director says this game will have a less repetitive open world compared to GoT, which will be nice because while I can't recall disliking the open world events in GoT they didn't have a huge variety of things to do, and some of the stuff was content you'll also do in the main questline. RE: Ghost of Yōtei - ShiraNoMai - Oct 2nd, 2024 I remember some people complaining it had a bit of a Far Cry/Assassin's Creed open-world disease with the "checklist of things to do", though like you said, I can't really say I found that to be as pressing as with those other games. Even the Horizon games suffered a bit more on that front too, I'd say, than Ghost. Was the "Ghost" thing mentioned in the lore of the first game? I feel like I remember that being a 'legend' that Jin took upon himself, but the memory of it being verbalized by other characters is foggy. If so, I can see them doing it again, with more of a specific nod towards Jin, I imagine. RE: Ghost of Yōtei - Moonface - Oct 3rd, 2024 (Oct 2nd, 2024, 02:02 AM)ShiraNoMai Wrote:Jin outright says to Shimura that "I am not your son. I am the Ghost." somewhere in Act 2 I think which is the first time he refers to himself with the title, but before this others have already started to refer to him as it so this moment is Jin accepting the title. I was trying to find a full script for the game to find all the times the term gets used but I didn't manage to find one.

RE: Ghost of Yōtei | Release Date & Special Editions - Dragon Lord - Aug 30th, 2025 I'm approaching this game with extremely tempered expectations. Ghost of Tsushima was such a masterpiece that following it up and reaching that same level is going to be extremely difficult. I don't think this will be a day 1 buy for me, but I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for reviews on the systems of the game to see if it feels as good as the first game did, or if they tried to do too much and kind of made the game sloppy (something that sequels tend to do too often to try and one-up the previous game). RE: Ghost of Yōtei | Release Date & Special Editions - Moonface - Oct 13th, 2025 Having watched a playthrough of a majority of the game, it seems to be more of the same in terms of gameplay but with improvements here and there to things. The story on the other hand is...I'd say it isn't good but really it just feels tired more than anything. IGN even wrote an article about how this game just feels like more of the same type of story Sony games have been doing some variation of for a while now. I certainly don't think the story comes close to what Tsushima offered, nor do the characters come remotely close to Tsushima's either. I doubt I'll even bother to buy this game at a discount because I liked Tsushima for its story as much as its gameplay, and I don't have interest in spending any money on another Sony sequel that improves the gameplay but has a disappointing story. It doesn't help that the villains motivations are apparently all found in collectibles so if you don't get them (like the person I watched streaming it didn't) you end up having no clue why the Yōtei Six kills Atsu's family. |
