Release Date: 2025

In 1603, a new Ghost named Atsu sets out on a journey in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, an area filled with sprawling grasslands, snowy tundras, and unexpected dangers.

Was not expecting this to be revealed during today's State of Play, and I wondered what this game was going to actually be when the streamer I was watching the SoP through noted that the date of this games setting is hundreds of years apart from Ghost of Tsushima (that game takes place in 1274). I did always wonder what could really be done for a sequel to GoT, but it never crossed my mind to just do another game in the same universe but completely separated from GoT.

I'm excited to see more and intrigued with what this game will do with the character/story that fits the vibe of being "the Ghost" but without retreading what GoT did.

Woo! Glad to see Sucker Punch are continuing the series as, well, a series. Definitely happy they chose to jump time periods/different characters. A series of just different legends from Japan's coolest historical eras Grin

I'm interested to see if Jin's story will live on in this game as some sort of legendary tale that went on to inspire others throughout history to become "ghosts". If the main character of this game is referred to by anyone or herself as such, then that surely has to be the case otherwise it'll be a little odd that two samurai in Japan in different time periods decide to coin themselves with the same term. Tongue

A recent interview with the creative director says this game will have a less repetitive open world compared to GoT, which will be nice because while I can't recall disliking the open world events in GoT they didn't have a huge variety of things to do, and some of the stuff was content you'll also do in the main questline.

I remember some people complaining it had a bit of a Far Cry/Assassin's Creed open-world disease with the "checklist of things to do", though like you said, I can't really say I found that to be as pressing as with those other games. Even the Horizon games suffered a bit more on that front too, I'd say, than Ghost.

Was the "Ghost" thing mentioned in the lore of the first game? I feel like I remember that being a 'legend' that Jin took upon himself, but the memory of it being verbalized by other characters is foggy. If so, I can see them doing it again, with more of a specific nod towards Jin, I imagine.

Jin outright says to Shimura that "I am not your son. I am the Ghost." somewhere in Act 2 I think which is the first time he refers to himself with the title, but before this others have already started to refer to him as it so this moment is Jin accepting the title. I was trying to find a full script for the game to find all the times the term gets used but I didn't manage to find one. Eh

Ghost of Yōtei | Release Date & Special Editions
Sony has announced via the PlayStation Blog that Ghost of Yōtei will be released on October 2, 2025 for PlayStation 5.

Alongside that news, a new trailer has also been shared dubbed “The Onryō’s List,” which gives us a better insight into the Atsu's story and her motivations for revenge.

PlayStation Blog Wrote:
Sixteen years ago in the heart of Ezo (called Hokkaido in present day), a gang of outlaws known as the Yōtei Six took everything from Atsu. They killed her family and left her for dead, pinned to a burning ginkgo tree outside her home. But Atsu survived. She learned to fight, to kill, and to hunt, and after years away she has returned to her home with a list of six names: The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito.

One by one, she’s hunting them down to avenge her family, armed with the same katana used to pin her to that burning tree all those years ago. But while Atsu’s story begins with vengeance, she’ll find there’s more to her journey than just revenge. As she explores Ezo, Atsu will meet unlikely allies and forge connections that help give her a new sense of purpose.

The order in which Atsu hunts down the Yōtei Six will be entirely up to the player, and outside of that main quest players can also track other dangerous targets and claim bounties, or seek out weapon sensei to learn new skills.

Additionally, Ghost of Yōtei will be getting multiple different editions:

Pre-Order Bonus
  • Unique in-game mask
  • Atsu + Yōtei Six avatar set
Standard Edition - $69.99 USD / £69.99 / €79.99
  • Just the game, but including it in the list to share the pricing.
Digital Deluxe Edition - $79.99  USD / / £79.99 / €89.99
  • Full Game (Digital Only)
  • Snake Armor set
  • Digital Deluxe starting armor dye
  • Charm
  • Digital Deluxe horse and saddle
  • Early unlock of Traveler's Maps
  • Gold Sword kit
Collector's Edition - Price TBD
  • All pre-order bonuses
  • All Digital Deluxe Edition content
  • Replica display edition of Atsu's Ghost mask (6.8 x 5 x 5.9 inches), built to-scale with Jin's mask from the Ghost of Tsushima Collector's Edition.
  • A replica of Atsu’s sash, complete with the names of all six members of the Yōtei Six (but you’ll have to cross them off yourself). The sash measures 71 inches long and is made of a cotton blend, a perfect cosplay accessory or wall decoration.
  • A replica of the Tsuba from Atsu’s katana, forged by her father in the image of two twin wolves. This Tsuba measures roughly 3 x 3 inches and also includes its own display stand.
  • A pouch of coins and instructions to play Zeni Hajiki, a game of skill you’ll play throughout Ghost of Yōtei.
  • Foldable papercraft ginkgo tree along with a wolf at its base.
  • A set of four 5 x 7-inch art cards featuring the sash, the wolf, Atsu’s Ghost mask, and the games key art.
