I was falling asleep the first half of this direct, BUT THEN THAT MURAMASA TRAILER HIT. HOLY SHIIIIIIIT MURAMASA IS BAAAACK!!!! YEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!

Also oh my god, the chills I got when that trailer started, and bits of "Saria's Song" were playing every now and then, knew instantly it was it. I actually might have to get a Switch 2 now.

New Xenoblade game looked pretty damn good too.

A HD 2D Final Fantasy game is fucking awesome. Too bad it seems to have some annoying gimmicks in it (the summoning of other FF characters) instead of being able to just stand on its own legs.

Lots of port announcements as expected, so nothing to comment on there.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave continues to just look terrible, man. Fire Emblem is just in a freefall right now. Quality just keeps going down so hard every new release.

Anyways, I'm going to go run out in the streets screaming like a little schoolgirl over that Muramasa announcement.

EDIT: Well, thankfully Muramasa: Revenant Blades is coming to both PS5 and Steam, but man, OoT Remake and that new Xenoblade game might be enough to get me to pull the trigger on a Switch 2 purchase before the price increase in September.

OH YEAH AND THE TALES OF ETERNIA REMASTER ANNOUNCEMENT AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Oh yeah x2: New Atelier game!!!

I just got home from work so haven't seen anything yet besides a brief rundown of what games were shown. Excited to watch what the Pokopia DLC is and obviously intrigued about the OoT Remake trailer too. I'm not surprised the latter closed the show, but I am surprised it has a 2026 date attached to it. I would've bet money it would've been a 2027 release.

The fact that the OoT Remake is coming out this year is definitely making me consider snatching up a Switch 2 before the price increase even more now. Would have been even better if they said that a Majora's Mask remake was following it in 2027, but I just have to hope that it will be if OoT Remake is happening.

I've been saying all of this time that Nintendo has given me zero reason to want a Switch 2, but then they were like, "Hold our beer."

I do wish they would have shown a little gameplay though. My only concern for the game is that they're going to change the gameplay way too drastically and it's just going to make the game not nearly as good. I just want OoT with updated visuals and smoother combat, but with it still feeling relatively like OoT.

Either way though, I think I'm going to have to pick up a Switch 2 before September now.

Okay, now that I've had some time to check some stuff out:
  • Pokopia getting DLC isn't surprising given how big of a hit it turned out to be, but I wasn't expecting it to be a three part expansion pass. Underwater building is going to be so nice because trying to build anywhere near deep water is incredibly painful, and trying to break blocks underwater is a matter of hoping you can do it within a couple of seconds before you drown. I'm hoping the second town being added in 2027 will be something involving snow/ice because the lack of ice Pokémon in Pokopia is very apparent.

  • I don't know what the heck is going on at the start of the Xenoblade Genesis trailer but the shot at :08 gives me Halo ring vibes. I also wanna know where exactly the sky/suns are meant to be because it doesn't seem like it can be up in the sky when the world is continuing up into that space. Questioning of the world aside, I'm trying to figure out what connection the game has at all to Xenoblade, since everything seems to be completely new stuff. I know this is a new beginning but my point is why Xenoblade and not a new IP instead? (Besides Xenoblade being an established IP to use as a name.)

  • Final Fantasy Resonance looks cool, but I also think HD-2D as a style in general just always looks awesome. Not sure if it'll be a game I get or not because I lost interest in other Final Fantasy games I've played (FF7 Remake and FFXVI Demo) so I'm wary this will meet a similar fate with me. Tongue

  • Still not really sold on Duskbloods, and until I see it for myself I'm doubtful the online will actually run decently.

  • Might pick up Splatoon Raiders, since I did enjoy the gameplay of Splatoon 3 but the online stuff burned me out on it quickly.

  • I didn't expect Kingdom Hearts IV to be showing up here or anywhere for that matter, and while I won't ever play the games I was curious to see what was shown for this. Maybe it's because of being development footage but I do not like how everything outside of the battle area doesn't seem to be reacting at all to what's going on. If I was in a car or on a bus and saw some teenager fighting shadow monsters with a key in the intersection I think the last thing I'd be doing is just staying idly in the vehicle, or standing on the sidewalk just doing seemingly nothing. Huh

Wasn't a lot to take away from this for me sadly. Barely anything really, KH getting getting a game and LoZ Ocarina were the two big ones but had no affect on me. Although gotta say the OoT remake does look good.

Xenoblade stuff was cool, though I only want to play the first one only and not 2 and 3. I already have 1 on Switch already. Genesis looks alright.

Dragon's Dogma 2 getting a Dark Arisen expansion, I didn't even realise it was that, just thought it was the standard game coming to Switch 2, tohugh I was confused at the enemies as I never saw them before. When I re-watched I realised it, they should've just had this in the normal game then make a new expansion. It at least looks better than what DD2 has, but still the nerf to overall gameplay will hinder it's worth. Hopefully no more feline faced race in there, ugh. Not sure yet if I'll bother with Dark Arisen or not. May end up being another lesser version of DD1, and DD1's Dark Arisen.

The big thing about this is that Dragon's Dogma was already a good game and the Dark Arisen expansion elevated it up to being a great game. Dragon's Dogma 2 is pure garbage and a Dark Arisen expansion is just going to potentially elevate it to slightly less garbage. That's why I cannot feel hyped about it at all. Dragon's Dogma 2 was just so bad after how long we had to wait for it, and I don't think there's anything they can do with this expansion that will come close to fixing it and making it feel any fun to play.

Would be nice if they would at least add fast travel to the game, because good lord I don't know how they managed to make exploration and traversal in DD2 feel so bad.

It's kind of funny. Most of the time I'm the one who finds Nintendo Directs to be horrendous, while everyone else generally likes them, but this time I'm the one who is just super hyped about so much that was shown while everyone else seems to be pretty lukewarm on it. I mean there was a lot of pretty mediocre stuff in here, but there was also so many gems hidden away in it (Tales of Eternia Remaster, new Atelier game among some of the quick shot things shown).

I will say I got a good laugh out of them showing the Duskbloods just for it to be an announcement of an open beta test and nothing else. I could hear the 10 people who are actually excited for the game raging from here.
