forgive me, i'm terrible at introductions

hello, everyone! my name is paintbucket. truth be told, i've been lurking this site for quite some time (like, a long time...), and i felt comfortable enough with the general atmosphere and activity to sign up! i say this because forums, unfortunately, are, well.... not as popular as they used to be would be mildly putting it. those forums with an actual community, even a small one, tend to be those that typically thrive and i'm happy that i've found one that seems to be doing pretty well. c:

my gaming interest are as follows:
  • pokemon
  • final fantasy (i LOVE ffxiv but i'm on hiatus from it atm due to burnout)
  • i'm getting into the mario and luigi rpgs since i recently beat superstar saga like a few months back lmao
  • i also like playing mario party
  • ratchet & clank
  • xenosaga (rip... such a good game series)
  • trails in the sky (i need to finish sky 3rd... im at the very end!)

iiii think that's it? i don't want to get too rambly. u__u i'm both a pc and a switch gamer, and while i used to own playstation consoles, they more or less collected dust due to me not using them as much. it's gotten so bad that i've purchased and sold my ps4 like maybe three times in some attempt to get some interest back, but it'd always be the same situation so i think after the third time i decided that the console maaaybe wasn't for me. x:

but i hope everyone here is doing well! i look forward to lurking and perhaps posting around here a bit c:

I feel ya on forum popularity and how it can be hard to find one, especially one that isn't surviving solely through being a community so utterly large you feel like someone trying to have their voice heard in the crowd of a football stadium. LOL

But yeah, we've been around a while collectively (this particular iteration of the forum was made in 2018 but we actually founded the forum in 2006) even though we've always had a smaller community here.

Anyway, let me get to the point and actually welcome you to the community! ^_^
I'm a Ratchet & Clank fan myself so I can easily talk about that series with you; I've been meaning to try out the Mario & Luigi RPG's myself but have yet to remember to get around to doing it. Sweat

i typically don't have an issue with large communities, so long as they aren't TOO big, but that is a fair point...i'd rather actually get to know people and feel included than Just Another Member, y'know?

o: oh wow, that is interesting! so you guys have been around for quite a long time! i mean this genuinely, that's really impressive, especially with how rampant social media has kinda dwarfed forums in this day and age, it remains tougher than ever to keep a community afloat. and the fact that you managed to still do so is really cool!

thanks for the welcome. ^^

and i REALLY love r&c, i'm currently on r&c.. i want to say 4? 4 is the one where like, ratchet gets kidnapped or w/e and participates in a bunch of gladiator-esque games, i think, right? i'm playing through that one and then after that, i might just play rift apart. i wanted to re-familiarize myself with the series from the beginning before playing rift apart anyway so starting from the beginning and ending around r&c 4 should be fine.

Ah, Deadlocked. I'd recognize it from that description any day of the week. That is indeed the 4th game released in the series. Solid game, though the Remaster on PS3 left a lot to be desired, in my eyes.

Hello there, paintbucket. I go by many names, but most just call me Maniak. I think I speak for everyone here when I say we hope you enjoy your stay, and don't mind all the wacky.

Welcome to UG, paintbucket.

Sounds like you'll fit in quite well here with those interests and your favourite series'.

I suppose I am a fan of Pokémon just not a diehard one that has all the mainline games, I've got...Heartgold, White, Black 2/White 2 and Shield and that's all. I also lightly collected the trading cards when they were first ever introduced and a lot of the earlier Pokémon show (*doesn't like calling it an anime even though it technically is*), last thing I properly watched was the...third movie, the one with Entei.

Have played Mario Party games but not all, and do really like the M&L series even though I've played only two of them, well three because of Superstar Saga remake. I might get Brothership. Anyway, Superstar Saga (GBA at the moment, because I've not played all the way through the remake) is one of my top favourite games of all time.

o: good to hear! to sum everything up, i'm a really big fan of (j)rpgs and hack and slashers/action-adventure games. anything that has some sort of level up system where i can be overpowered and destroy enemies sounds right up my alley LOL

i really only keep up with the games these days. i don't have the time of day to dedicate to anything else even if i wanted to keep up with any other aspect of the franchise. x.x

i think the last mario party game i played was on gamecube? so when Super Mario Party Jamboree released, i had to look at reviews first to see what people thought of it and was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of very positive things said about it, so i gave it a shot and it definitely didn't disappoint! fun game to play solo, more fun with other people (which is the point of the game but STILL).

i'm holding off on playing the M&L series until i finish the long list of other games that i have yet to beat but that's still something i want to get into more in the (hopefully) not too distant future!

Dead series you say? Have you perhaps heard of the Xenoblade series? Or perhaps Xenogears? I have played both and enjoyed immensely.

I too am also a Mario and Luigi RPG series fan. But I'd say wait for a sale before getting it or see if you can buy it used for cheap. I bought it and it's ok, at least Dream Team was decent. I loved the Super Star Saga with Fawful, it's hilarious.

To your credit, Xenoblade is quite a shift away from the style of the rest of the Xeno series titles, particularly Saga. Though based on your interest in JRPGs like Trails in The Sky or even the more modern Final Fantasy games, I think you'd really take to the Xenoblade series. I haven't finished any of them myself (I got about halfway through the first, and hard stuck on the second game's 10 hour mark) but they're all very charming and endearing. Smile

Anyway, yes hello hello indeed and welcome! Glad to see you've made your way here somehow, especially in this day and age. While we've all known each other for a while here, I'd like to think we don't create an atmosphere that's unwelcome to folks outside our small community and invite anyone to jump in to any discussion or topic at any time! ^_^

I did catch you had a particular opinion on whether or not you classify the Pokémon anime as, well, anime, which leads me to ask: are you a fan of anime? If so, got any favorites? Manga are also acceptable responses Smile

i really hope so! i'm about to finish a game i'm playing rn (octopath traveler 2) so maybe i'll give the xenoblade series a shot and see how it is.

the most difficult part of joining any forum truly is the fitting in part, huh? and yeah, this site feels a bit more of that small forum, cozy atmosphere that i really miss.

- camara ready is at the top of the list. admittedly, because i'm not really good at it and i feel the game is rather picky on the quality of the photo and that i never really seem to hit that mark.
- hot cross blocks is another. this is essentially guesswork at its finest; you basically have to hope you aren't picking the same blocks as your opponents in order to move forward so everything is out of your control. this can be said of some other minigames as well (gate key-pers comes to mind), though they're more enjoyable in their execution and mechanics than this.
- all the marbles is an interesting duel minigame in its concept that's also basically amounts to luck. there isn't really a method to its madness, you just have to hope that by hitting your opponent, you slow them down enough that you end up at the finish line first. even then, that's not guaranteed because depending on how much the marbles slow you down and which path you take, that can also be a game decider on its own and that smacking your opponent won't change much.
- prime cut is a bad experience if you're doing it with cpus. minigame itself is fine but if you're partnered with a cpu, good luck trying any sort of good cutting coordination.

minigames that i really like:

- pretty much any of the "keep all the coins you collect" minigames. they're designed so that there's no loss unless you collect no coins at all, and they can really make the difference between a loss and a win in a given game depending on how many coins you have/how many you really need.
- light-wave battle is a REALLY fun time. it's a shame that most of the time it's so short but thematically speaking it's really neat.
- cookie cutters i really like because it's a cute game more than anything else
- yoshi's mountain race has been enjoyable for me the moment i've first started playing it, assuming we're counting jamboree buddy minigames. that fact that this is nothing but pure yoshi-racing-through-an-obstacle-course is so neat to me.

there are some others, but i'll leave it at this. there's definitely more minigames out there that i enjoy than i don't though, so points to jamboree especially for having so many good ones!

Smile

i really hope so! i'm about to finish a game i'm playing rn (octopath traveler 2) so maybe i'll give the xenoblade series a shot and see how it is.

While we've all known each other for a while here, I'd like to think we don't create an atmosphere that's unwelcome to folks outside our small community and invite anyone to jump in to any discussion or topic at any time! ^_^

the most difficult part of joining any forum truly is the fitting in part, huh? and yeah, this site feels a bit more of that small forum, cozy atmosphere that i really miss.

thank you for the welcome! c:

Quote:I did catch you had a particular opinion on whether or not you classify the Pokémon anime as, well, anime, which leads me to ask: are you a fan of anime? If so, got any favorites? Manga are also acceptable responses Smile

embarassingly, i don't really watch anime. i think the last one i've watched was like, dragon ball super?
