I hadn't known there was an outage until I went on my PS5 earlier, as yesterday I finished up on there just before the first moment PSN went down. This is not good, no proper reason has been given yet so far either.

I didn't see them put out a statement as to why it happened, just "hey, it's back, sorry!". Wonder what caused it Hmm

PlayStation Gives Reason for PSN Outage; Offers Amends
Following the almost 20-hour long outage that affected PSN across Friday and Saturday, PlayStation have given an official reason for the issue via their Ask PlayStation social media account:

Ask PlayStation Wrote:
Network services have fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service.
As the quote says, PS+ members will be receiving an extra five days of service onto their subscriptions. If you're not a PS+ subscriber, then too bad I suppose. Tongue

This right here is why I'm not getting a PS6 when it drops. I don't pay to be online with PS nor do I feel it's worth it. I'm glad the FF games are coming to pc cause now I have 0 reason to stick with a Sony console. More so now than before. Yea, a few days of freemium ps+ maybe nice, but their silence about what really happened is defining and I'm not having it anymore.

Yeah, the lack of communication is the biggest thing I saw people bringing up as a complaint about this more than the network being down; downtime happens, but leaving people in the dark about it (even if just acknowledging the issue and not sharing any further details about it) is probably what irritates folk the most. Especially when Sony have a status page that doesn't actually communicate anything even when there is downtime, so seeing a status page saying things are okay but everywhere online outside of that giving you the opposite message just adds to the confusion and frustration.

As for playing games on PC being a way to avoid this, it depends on the game. I believe any first-party PlayStation titles on PC were affected by the PSN login requirement because users couldn't log in to then access their game. That to me is the biggest problem with downtime issues like this; losing online play temporarily is unavoidable during it, but locking people out of games that could run without a PSN/internet connection is ridiculous.
