Having grown up in a city, I can tell you it's not all cracked up to be. It's nosey, it's crowded, the views can be an eyesore at times. I prefer the country life sometimes, being up in the mountains is incredibly peaceful and quiet.

If we're going for either end of the spectrum, country over city for reasons you've said. Otherwise, I mostly like something in the middle maybe leaning a little more towards countryside, because being in the middle of bumfuck nowhere makes it very likely there's nothing much to do and that you'd have to move and/or travel far for work. Like, my hometown was nice but had nothing to do except pubs and drinking, and unless you want to work in a grocery store you're pretty much forced to travel out of town for work. Where I am currently in the US is more built up (technically it is a city but to me, a city is NYC type stuff which is not what this is) and I'd say it sits on a good point along the line of city ---------- country.

I think I prefer country ultimately for how peaceful it is compared to city. I have been to a place that's almost country, though it's closer to a village really and close to built up areas, does require a drive, has no shops whatsoever, only a pub, post office, school, village hall and church then everything else is houses and bungalows. Is indeed peaceful, calm and friendly. However a city has access to many things all of which could be in walking distances or if the other side of the city, a bike ride or public transport. So I'd want to say country, but currently annoyingly I have to go with city. Country-style is suited for retirement or those able to work there on a farm perhaps, or tolerating having to travel for work. I suppose recent times have aided in a way of the work-from-home angle, although that can also prove to not be beneficial as well.

Country. More peace and quiet, less crime, generally better experience with people. Sure, this might mean you have to travel to a city to go shopping for groceries and stuff, but hey, I'll take the better living experience in exchange for having to do some traveling.
The only downside to small town living is if you live in one of those small towns that gets screwed for internet options and you get stuck with the worst speeds imaginable outside of dial up. Thankfully the small town I live in has a decent offering for internet. It's nothing amazing, but I do get around 650-700 Down and 45-50 Up for speeds, which I'll take compared to what some other small towns get.
