So apparently everyone at Annapurna Interactive just resigned.

Annapurna Interactive President Nathan Gary and his team had been negotiating with Ellison, the daughter of billionaire Larry Ellison, to spin off the video-game division as an independent entity. When Ellison pulled out of the negotiations, Gary and other executives resigned and were followed by around two dozen other staffers.

A spokesperson for Annapurna confirmed that it had explored a spinoff and said the parties failed to reach an agreement, which led to the resignations.

The exodus has led to chaos as game developers partnered with Annapurna try to figure out what this means for their upcoming projects. As a publisher, Annapurna is responsible not only for funding the games but for handling services such as quality-assurance, adapting the products for local markets and marketing. Over the past few days, game makers working with Annapurna have scrambled to find new points of contact and figure out whether the company will continue to honor its agreements.

The spokesperson said that all existing games and projects will remain under Annapurna.

New president Hector Sanchez has told developers that the company will honor existing contracts.

That's fucking wild! I don't think I've ever heard of a game company having its entire staff take their ball and go home. What sucks most about this is how big of a void this leaves in the indie publishing scene, considering that Annapurna is for indie gaming what A24 is for indie movies.

Kudos on them walking out rather than being ultimately let go some day, knowing they have more worth than that. I sincerely wish them and their new ventures well. o7

I think if layoffs were to have happened that weren't remotely justified or agreed with by the rest of Annapurna that they'd still probably walk out. They're clearly an incredibly unified team and with that sort of comradery I hope they all end up being able to stay together in a new venture so that that spirit doesn't get lost if they were to all end up in various existing companies that are unlikely to have a similar mindset amongst all the employees.

So IGN put together an article that tries to gather more details about the Annapurna walkout. It's a pretty interesting read but the tl;dr is basically someone at the top acting like an imbecile again, surprise surprise.


In other general game news, a new Yakuza game got announced yesterday and while I haven't watched the trailer yet the thumbnail for it and a couple of other images I've seen make it look pretty wild.

So, if you live outside of the EU and UK, you might have already gotten a pop-up saying Steam is changing its subscriber agreement. Effective November 1st, anyone outside of the those named territories is no longer under forced arbitration for legal disputes; you must sue them in King County, Washington (state).

This, to me, is VERY FUNNY! If you aren't aware, in the US, Steam is still settling through arbitration a class action lawsuit against them. So this is them eating egg for it; they realized "CRAP, THIS IS TAKING FOREVER" and decided the lesser of two evils was actually being sued in a courtroom. I'm giggling; this is funny.

I think I saw that pop-up but I doubt I'll ever be taking Steam to court or having some legal dispute with them so I just clicked it away almost instantly and forgot all about it.

And I guess the Until Dawn remake is possibly going to justify itself to me after I always thought it was something no one really cared for over remakes of other Sony IP, but I just learned the remake has a new ending cutscene that can be unlocked and hints towards a sequel. I know the devs did other games after UD but I think that one was always seen as their best and most successful, so I don't blame them "reviving" it so to speak if they're going all in with a movie and a sequel. I wonder if the sequel is going to come along sooner than later so that it can strike while the IP is still riding on its revival wave?

I've also been seeing some initial thoughts about the Silent Hill 2 Remake from people who got early copies, and it doesn't seem to be getting received too badly. I doubt I'll play it myself though because I couldn't even stomach the demo for SH4. x.x

Ooh nice, didn't expect this to ever happen with how Isolation originally sold back at launch but I always wanted to know what direction the sequel would take.
Of course that doesn't mean I'll probably play it because I'm still not up for even trying to play Isolation. XD

So my Switch just bricked. It will now no longer accept any charging whatsoever. Even tried plugging the damn thing directly to the outlet like it recommends, and nothing doing. ...I literally just bought Yggdra Union. I have a trip in less than 2 weeks, and I was planning on bringing that along, dock and all! You have no idea how mad I am right now!

Oof, that really sucks! I wonder what would cause it to suddenly stop taking a charge? If it still turns on then the battery isn't fucked at least, so that would make me guess it's to do with the charging port itself.

Yeah, I've tried everything I could find on the internet short of attacking it with a toothpick (which, yes, I did find), and it doesn't look like the connector is bent or anything like that. I haven't dropped it or anything, just taken it out of its dock. It's fucking bullshit!

Maybe you already tried this but apparently holding the power button for 15 seconds boots the system into safe mode and from there you can perform a soft reboot by holding the VOLUME UP, VOLUME DOWN, and POWER buttons at the same time. I saw someone say they used it to clear up an issue with their Switch not recognizing any charging cables so maybe that can give you some luck?

Yup, I did that; I reinitialized the system, even. Not only did it not work, it forced me to wipe my SD card because that's how a Switch works!
