I saw an image earlier today of an Xbox and a Nintendo controller and noticed how they both have a different approach to the order of the ABXY buttons, and wondered whether anyone here has a particular preference on the order of those buttons. Tongue

So, which are you?

I was born and raised BAYX, but my brain wants to correct it to ABXY, which is just from how we Westerners read things: left to right.

I'm more used to the button arrangement more than the actual letter orientation, though that will get in the way sometimes when games call for specific buttons LOL

Ah, well the question is more the button arrangement rather than the stated order. I just didn't know how else to differentiate the two types other than what the thread title currently is though. Tongue

For me, although I've not used ABXY controllers as much as PlayStation ones, I'd consider the X button on a PlayStation controller to be the A button on anything else because I view the former as the primary face button.

Honestly when I was learning to use the Xbox controller I learned it as an backwards Nintendo controller. So I can swap between consoles buttons pretty easily. I grew up on Nintendo so of course I know the Nintendo buttons by heart. Thus the YXBA set up is what I knew. BUT also how I learned to understand a new controller.

It's learning mouse and keyboard I have issues with tbh though. XD

I almost forgot what a normal Nintendo controller looks like with that layout, except my mind reverted back to the GameCube way of doing the BAYX. (just imagine the X is raised up a little more but not on the same level as Y, plus B is also raised up but not quite A so it's a diagonal pretty much)

-Y---
--A-X
B----

Anyway as I am more used to Nintendo then yes, BAYX. Even though on a Playstation Controller, where A is would be O (Circle), and B is X, O is usually the return or back button with X as select or confirm but it's switched in the places of A and B respectively, I am used to the swapped command buttons depending on when I'm playing PlayStation or Nintendo.

I have no idea why I can swap between playing one game on pc to a game on Sony then back to Nintendo like it's nothing. I watched someone else try getting back into playing Pokémon violet and he had such a time trying to relearn the button set up it was hilarious, and I'm OLDER than he is. XD
