Some of the base MyBB stuff is annoying such as thread links always going to the last post in the thread and not the first unread post, but fortunately that can be remedied by tinkering with the php files that generate the links. Customisation is also way easier thanks to the complete freedom you get, whereas ZB would require JS to hide or drastically change things.
