I think it's funny Nintendo is suing Palworld for use of video game mechanics THEY THEMSELVES plan to use for their MMO version of Pokemon. This game released long before Nintendo hit them with a suit, so it should be tossed out and we should all laugh at Nintendo for over-reach at this point. smh

Oof, that much and over those reasons? Well it is Yen and that's apparently $65k or £50k but still, yeesh. Initially I took the wording of late payment being relevant now instead of if they are late, but it could really mean either.
Just wondering how much this hurts Palworld and if it can continue...oh wait no that's stupid, just looked up and they've earned way enough that $65 is just a scrape really. (apparently $164m+ if Google is correct)

Suing another company over a patent you own and intend to use isn't anything unusual or even wrong. It's happened plenty of times before in the gaming industry and a patent is generally to restrict anyone but yourself from doing the thing the patent covers.

I don't see how a patent can be enforced on anything that was released before the patent was filed.
@ Mr EliteL: Yeah the money that Pocketpair potentially owes to Nintendo over this is nothing compared to how much they earned from Palworld. This is the equivalent of giving a millionaire a speeding ticket. However, if I am interpreting it correctly, an injunction against Palworld implies the game has to cease continuation which would be the bigger blow to the company given its massive success. Sure they'll keep the money from the sales of it but it would essentially put Pocketpair back to square one to make a new game to replace it, and I doubt a new game would capture the same lightning in a bottle this one did.

I don't think Nintendo is going to get anywhere since Palworld is on the Xbox and now PlayStation. We all know that sony and nintendo have been at odds before. This isn't their first rodeo.

For some reason I thought pocketpair won the suit against Nintendo. I have no idea why though. 😖

What platforms the game is on wouldn't have any affect on the outcome of the lawsuit, nor would Sony or Xbox step in on Pocketpair's behalf because the latter is a third party who has no deal with either company. And even then, the decision ultimately comes down to the courts based on what is given to said courts relative to the lawsuit. There's a much higher chance and better success to be had for Pocketpair if they bring up that all the patents were made after Palworld released, so they can't be expected to avoid infringing a patent when it didn't exist yet. It's the equivalent of changing the speed limit on a road from 55 to 45 and then trying to charge everyone who did 55 before the speed limit was changed.

Well, the way Palworld plays has changed. No more pulling out your pal to summon it to wherever you want & no longer tossing the balls while flying to capture pals anymore. I have seen mods that fix the issue so you can still summon your pal where you want but idk about the flying/catching mechanic atmo. Still interesting to see that Palworld would rather take out the mechanics then deal with Nintendo suing them into oblivion. <_<

Palworld | Feybreak Update Released
The Feybreak update for Palworld has been released, and brings with it a ton of new features, new areas, new pals, new buildings, hardcore mode, expeditions, research and more!
Here are just a few of the things listed in the patch notes: - Meowmere, the first "bullet-firing melee weapon" in Palworld, has been added. This is only a small taste of the Palworld x Terraria collab, and in 2025, even more collaboration content will be released! Enjoy taking a step towards a new adventure alongside the sound of cat meowing!
- A new island, Feybreak, has appeared! A mysterious island with many challenges, glowing sand and many new Pals!
- Conquer the Feybreak Warriors, a new faction that dominates the island with the power of their missile battery camp.
- New Mechanic - Expeditions
- Obtain supplies by sending Pals out on expeditions at the Pal Expedition Station.
- New Mechanic - Research
- By conducting research at the Pal Labor Research Laboratory, you can unlock permanent passives and rewards that increase the productivity of your base.
- Vicious Predator Pals will now appear throughout the world. These Pals are extremely difficult to defeat but those strong enough to take them down will earn rare resources in return for their bravery!
- New Strongholds and Stronghold Boss: The Attack Chopper
- A large and very difficult "Platform Oil Rig" has appeared! Great riches, important supplies and more are stored here. A powerful Attack Chopper guards this rig from any intruders!
- A smaller oil rig, the "Barge Oil Rig" has been added for beginners.
The full patch notes can be read here: Feybreak v0.4.11 Patch Notes

As for Pocketpair removing things instead of being sued, I don't blame them since if Nintendo is successful in filing an injunction against Palworld it means the game can no longer continue. Better to change/lose a few things and avoid that fate in comparison to losing the entire game.

I think the initial marketing for the game got propelled heavily by the "Pokémon with guns" word of mouth, and a lot of people have been experiencing some degree of disappointment with the Pokémon games and were hoping this game might push The Pokémon Company to let Game Freak cook the games for a bit longer, especially after how Scarlet/Violet launched.
Despite having this recent update though I've yet to really see any talk about the game around the internet, to the point I don't know if the update just didn't really generate that much interest or if I've just managed to not naturally come across signs of it actually generating interest.

Well, this aged poorly very quickly because the first thing I saw when I went online today was this article by Forbes: ‘Palworld: Feybreak’ Draws 200,000 Concurrent Players, Now In Steam’s Top 10
I forgot Steam has graphs showing player count over time until I saw one for Palworld in that article, and the player count hasn't really been that high over the last six months so I guess that's why outside of the ongoing lawsuit news that the game seemed to just drop off a bit from talk circles around the internet:
For not being a live service game, I wonder if any future major updates will remain free for the game or if they'll eventually charge for them or not. Most games that give out free updates long after release are usually those that have other methods of monetization because of being live service titles so it'll be interesting to see what direction the devs take with updates for this game in the long run.
