A guy gets stabbed by a chick with a sword and gets the ability to fight beings of the afterlife.

(Side note, you do not need to guess what someone else has done to give a bad plot. That's just an extra thing you can try to do for fun.  )

Geez, there I was trying to figure out if the one above was a video game but it was Bleach! ...I do not know Maniak's one either.

Guy gets cursed to find stones to help him remove it, but he seems to get dragged into helping a doctor cure a bunch of people, yet they both go on hunting with a lady and her cat, bodyguard, cleric...where'd all these people and unrelated tasks come from?! He just wants to remove his curse dang it!

I want to say yes to that, and now can't believe I unintentionally managed to get InuYasha out of that too, with that being Miroku.  Was actually meant to be Therion's side of Octopath with him meeting Alfyn then by chance H'annit with either a monster or Olberic, then Ophilia with "all these people" being the others plus Primrose and Ophilia's followers.
