So who else here knew that Ask Jeeves a.k.a. Ask.com was still a thing? I thought the place had died over a decade ago but I just saw one of the bots that crawled the board today was Ask.com which caught my attention, and so I went to the site out of curiosity in case it was just something else using the name but it doesn't look like it. I don't think I've seen or heard anyone mention that search engine since I was in secondary school, and I only knew of it back then because I'd use it as an alternative image search to get different results to what Google and Yahoo would give me. XD

So, who here would like to go for a walk?
I just learned of this website/company called The Conqueror that offers walking challenges based around different themes, some based on real life locations and others based on fictional stuff like Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Tomb Raider. I doubt anyone here would actually do any of these, but it's a cool idea and the medals are so well done that they're half the reason I wanted to share this discovery. The company also plants trees and does other stuff based on your progress.
I found out about this because I saw someone on the Tomb Raider subreddit share that they had earned all three of the Tomb Raider challenge medals along with a photo as proof, and naturally everyone was asking what they were until someone posted the link to The Conqueror website. It's a neat idea, although I wonder how people find out about this normally.

To answer your previous question about Ask, I didn't and is it still going as it's been 3 months since the post? *checks* Yes it is.
Now about the walk, I would actually. Well in the correct weather anyway, not in the cold and rain like it is. I didn't know about The Conquerer, I didn't think it was all that until I also looked at the site, ah you actually receive physical medals, I initially thought they were going to be virtual. They look pretty cool too, especially the Tomb Raider one with the moving parts like it's a mini puzzle to access the mini treasure inside. Not sure if I'd be willing to sign up to earn some, but there isn't many I'd actually go for. Possibly Looney Tunes I guess.

It being a paid endeavor sours it a bit for me but I completely understand why it exists in the first place, and seeing the rewards you get for such accomplishments is honestly worth the payment for the quality of work alone.

Makes me wonder what other really old websites are still around that you'd think would have closed down a long time ago from the business fading into obscurity to remain financially viable.

Oh dang I didn't actually notice the Tomb Raider ones have moving parts to them. Now I'm curious how many others have extra features I didn't notice before.

Most of them being $50 for the quality of medal you get plus some of that money being donated to charities feels like a steal to me; on the other hand, there are apparently digital-only versions of some challenges where you don't get physical rewards nor make a donation but the entry cost is lower as a result, and I think that's a bit shit because I don't see the value in paying at least 50% of the normal price just to get some virtual app stuff.
