I'm actually surprised Dino Crisis hasn't had anything done with it following the success of the RE remakes, even if it was just re-releasing the original games digitally as an easy way to try and judge some level of interest in the series today.

I also hadn't heard of Survivor before. You mention it being confirmed as canon by RE0 but has there ever been a game in the RE series that isn't canon? I've always thought they all were. Unsure

Yes, actually; RE Survivor 2 is a dream of Claire's during the events of Code Veronica and involves her getting chased by Nemesis. Dead Aim (RE Survivor 4) no one knows if it's canon, because those events have never been referenced out of that game. Resident Evil Gaiden on Game Boy is a game that is explicitly non-canon, as well (hence the "Gaiden" in its name -- Japanese for "Another Story"). Survivor 2 and Dead Aim are also Light Gun games, and Gaiden is more of a turn-based RPG. Those are the ones I can immediately think of; I'd have to dig if there are any others.

Survivor 3 is a Dino Crisis game; don't worry about it.

Oh wow okay I didn't expect to see they did 4 of the Survivor-style games. Looking at them quickly I could see the second one being a good side mode or DLC mode for a Code Veronica remake, since I don't think any of them as a standalone title would do that well compared to the mainline entries. I think if Capcom were to remake a light gun RE shooter they'd be more likely to go for Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles because they don't seem to be as much of a spin-off as the Survivor series is plus they collectively tie into RE0, RE1, RE3 and RE4 (I'm actually surprised neither cover anything about RE2) in what appears to be a more canonical way.

Resident Evil Requiem | First Gameplay Details
If you were wondering what the gameplay would be like for Resident Evil Requiem, multiple outlets have shared details from a recent hands-on preview:
  • The game offers a choice to play in either first-person or third-person, and this can be swapped at any time via the Options menu, similar to Village.
  • Makeshift weapons are a thing, with the demo opening with a defenseless Grace who can pick up bottles to use as projectiles or distractions.
  • Certain areas are pitch black and only possible to navigate after finding a lighter to see with.
  • The preview demo has a monster that stalks Grace similar to Mr. X or Lady Dimitrescu, but it's hard to know if it is also invulnerable like those enemies since Grace lacks any weapons to fight back with.
  • IGN describes first-person as suited to exploration and dread, whilst third-person gives a more action-like feel sorta like when Leon runs away from Mr. X in RE2R.
  • Apparently the developers hinted at a second playable character who is familiar and fully armed.

I forgot that Village added an option to play the game in third-person, and being reminded of that now it doesn't surprise me this game chose to offer both perspectives. I'm tempted to replay Village at some point in third-person now to see how it compares to the tone of playing the game in first-person. The stalker enemy is a mixed bag for me because I hated Mr. X but I didn't mind Dimitrescu.
I feel like the returning character has to be someone from RE2/RE3, only because you can't return to Racoon City and not have a returning character be someone who was there originally. Chris going there for example wouldn't really hit at all because he has no connection or experience to the city. Given it's a government mission it would make the most sense for Leon to be the one to return compared to Claire, Ada or Jill.
