My Dad was walking there, the people saw him on their way, then saw him in the same area they saw him before on their way out. (I'm not sure if he managed to actually get to town) So they drove him home, then reported they took an older man home, so social services are going to visit him at some point. We're already getting another doctor visit in June/July time as well, though that may need to be brought forward. At the moment we're seeing how it plays out whilst we visit when we can.

Yeah the world certainly is doing a lot of things, ha ..ha. Just gotta go with our own flow I suppose.

Thank you. Alas, they've decided to come back again this week every day since Wednesday which sucks extra because that's the first of my four days off in a row per week, so 3/4 of my days off have been plagued with some form of headache/migraine.

Uh, fuck today. Not because of what happened, but because of what is going to happen. My job decided to schedule me at 530 AM tomorrow... AFTER a 10 PM closing shift. So, at the absolute best, I'm going to be working with 6 hours of sleep, because screw me, I guess. I'll be honest, I am absolutely furious, because this shouldn't even be happening. My managers should have been able to do the basic FUCKING math to be able to figure out that this is not enough time between shifts, but this is Florida, so who gives a fuck about things like "basic human courtesy" or "coming to work at your best"!

I'm honestly thinking of just staying up all night, and coming into work like that. If they're going to fuck me like this, why should I even attempt to get in there at my best? Fuck this bullshit.

Late to this party, but I'm pretty sure it's a rule that there's supposed to be 10 hours minimum between shifts, so ending at 10pm would mean you shouldn't be back in until at least 8am. Oasis also flags such shifts if a manager tries to make them, although they can just ignore that like any other flags that come up such as scheduling someone outside their availability, so even if a manager can't do basic math of how much time is between closing/opening shifts the system literally tells them.
Also aren't you front service? What the fuck task are you being scheduled in at 5:30am for?! Nobody on front end gets to my store until about 6:30am and that's just the person who opens up the cash office and sets up all the registers and such.

Visited my Dad Saturday with my sister which went relatively OK for what it could be until after we got home, my brother informed us he got reported to social services that happened on a previous day. Initially sounds bad, but it was a family that brought him home, because he decided to walk into town after missing a bus. The walk probably takes at least an hour or more from where he lives. *sigh* Just another thing added to the list of headaches for us. (we're getting by just about)

From the first part, I thought social services were called to go find him walking home and was wondering why the police wouldn't be called instead, but then see you mentioned he was given a ride home by folks who spotted him and then social services was called. I would ask why he didn't wait for the next bus which would've surely been quicker than walking into town, but I'm assuming his condition was the reason for his choice. Depending on where he was walking from, the biggest concern I'd have would be the lack of actual footpaths on any of the ways into town which means either walking on the edge of the roads or trying not to eat shit going through fields or alongside ditches and shit.

JimCo came around that night to clean our stuff, so I was supposed to come back at 530 AM to help bring it all in. I got lucky, though, and someone was there that I could switch shifts with so I didn't have to wake up at an unreasonable hour. I then had to do a twelve-hour shift because someone had a family emergency (FUUUUUUUUUUCK THAT DAY!), but that's not the point, right now.

Well, scheduling issue aside at least your store actually bothers to have someone scheduled for when all the store equipment gets cleaned overnight to help bring it in in the morning. Any time I've had an opening shift that fell on the night for equipment cleaning there was never anybody scheduled to specifically help with that so everyone in the store would be called up to help bring it in, which would be fine except most of the people in the store at that time are bakery and deli who aren't gonna leave their areas because of the ovens and stuff being turned on.

And if it makes you feel better about the 12 hour shift, at least it wasn't almost 19 hours which I saw some lunatic share from whatever store they work at. I'm surprised they weren't kicked out long before their shift got that long.

Yeah, you're right about his condition causing it. Unfortunately he just doesn't think of the most common sense solution anymore.
I did check on Google Maps his street address to where he wanted to go in his, er, rather city centre I should call it now as Chelmsford is that, and it does take an hour by foot, and there are routes using pavement next to roads. Just not fully sure which one he may have took.

Oof, 12 hour shifts are usually reserved for the higher positioned colleagues at my place, though I did an 11 hour once and 10 many times. 19 though?!

I suppose my days at work this week were acceptable, haven't done much else other than resting and to not think of...certain stuff.

Woke up at 4am to go to work only to discover that our fridge/freezer has kicked the bucket and everything in it is now trash unless it doesn't explicitly require refrigeration i.e. soft drinks, soda, chocolate.

Also learned while calling my dad about it on my way home from work that him and the rest of my family have been at A&E (ER) for the past three hours because my brother has some sort of ear infection that hasn't been treatable with regular antibiotics, so apparently today is just cursed.

Oh my, hope you can get a new freezer and most importantly that your brother is able to get treated in another way for that ear infection, or hopefully has been treated by now.

Mine has been so-so, visited my Dad Monday, not much to say for the moment.

So after my brother and parents spending like 6+ hours at the hospital everything came back clear so no idea what his issue is. Doesn't seem to be a serious thing at least so

Currently buying a new fridge/freezer right now which will be delivered Friday. Luckily there's a sale going on right now so we got a really good deal.

My week turned out to be surprisingly good for once. I apparently must have worked at my old job long enough last year that I was qualified for an automatic contribution into my 401K, because I got an email the other day stating that I had $2,000 put into it. I already withdrew what I had in there before, so that's the only money in it now, so I'm going to go head and just withdraw it again. Even with paying the 30% tax on it (only have to do 20%, but it's recommended you just do 30% so you don't have to worry about being hit with the extra 10% at tax time the following year), that's going to give me $1,400 I didn't plan on having, so that'll be nice.

My mother finally got her disability claim approved as well, after a bit of a scare. Back in December and February, she had two separate people from the State call her with follow up questions, but then everything went dead silent after that. Turns out those two jackasses never submitted their "findings" on the follow-up questions, so her Disability case ended up being automatically closed. She ended up calling the lawyers that are doing her case for her about it, and they called and found out that it was closed, but thankfully they found out just in time to get the case re-opened. Apparently if she had waited just like one or two more weeks, the case would have been completely closed and she would have had to start the process all over from the very beginning (keep in mind, this process was started in May or June of 2024, so it's been almost a full year of just sitting around and waiting for the State of Minnesota to pull their heads out of their asses -- not something the Government in this State is good at doing). But thankfully she's been approved, and just needs to wait for like another 30-ish days for everything to be completed and then she'll get back pay for all the months she waited. We're not sure how long that's going to be, because they said the ruling is that they found her to truly disabled dating back to August of 2024, so we're not sure if they're going to back pay her all the way back to then, or if it's only going to be from when the process was started last year. Either way, it's going to be a huge chunk of money for her and it's going to be a huge relief for both her and me, because I no longer have to stress out every day on how I'm going to continue paying over $2,000 a month to cover both her bills and my own.

So yeah, things are starting to finally look a little better. Still a long way to go until I can feel happy in life again. Gotta get out of this horrendous field of work I'm stuck in and actually get myself into a job/career I can enjoy and feel happy about. There's really only two options I can think of that I think would make me feel happy/fulfilled in my life. One being a very farfetched possibility (streaming/content creator -- honestly I could have been doing this for years, but something inside my head just keeps stopping me from starting) and the other being more realistic, but still taking a lot of work to get there (police officer -- requires two years of schooling in this State, so with other things, looking at like three years minimum to reach). So maybe once I feel like financially things have become much more stable for me, then I can start working towards one of those goals and finally get myself to a point in life where I feel like life is still worth living.

I've been off work all week - and, it was badly needed after all the overtime I did, and the intensity of the last couple of weeks of work. But it's certainly helped me to recover!

A few of the highlights of what I've been up to over the past week:

• On Monday, my sister and I went out to a Japanese restaurant with a mutual friend. I had a couple of things I'd had before (bang bang cauliflower, and vegetable gyozas), but I also tried salmon sashimi for the first time. This wasn't my first time having sashimi of any description - I'd had beef and tuna sashimi before - but I think salmon is my favourite I've had so far: it doesn't have much of a fishy taste at all (I'd describe it as a mix of buttery and salty), but it does still have a fishy texture. So, it is quite unlike anything I'd have normally!
  
  
• Yesterday, I went to meet my girlfriend in Nuneaton (admittedly, not a particularly exciting place, but it was somewhere new to us, that we hadn't visited before). But there was a museum and art gallery, featuring stuff relevant to George Eliot, who was born there . And we (belatedly) gave each other our Easter chocolate: she got me a NOMO popcorn Easter egg and a couple of dairy-free chocolate bars, while I got her a Twirl Easter egg, a smaller Mini Eggs Easter egg, some Hotel Chocolat bunnies, and Maltesers Mini Eggs.
  
  
• Today, my sister, my dad and I went to a Thai street food restaurant, for his birthday (his birthday's actually tomorrow, but we decided eating out today would be less busy). We normally go to a South Indian restaurant, but we decided to change it up a bit . We decided to get several plates of things to share, which is normally difficult (due to my sister being a pescatarian and me having a dairy allergy), but this restaurant had plenty of things that were suitable for all of us! We had Pad Thai, fishcakes, prawns, battered tofu, corn fritters, and spiced broccoli: it was all yummy!

I'm back to work on Monday... should be feeling ready for it .
