How Was Your Day/Week?

I've also been staying late, too, but for different reasons. Our of our cleaners (of which we have a grand total of 6 for the end-of-night stuff) left with severe chest pain yesterday in the middle of his shift, and called out sick today on top of it. Turns out he has an enlarged heart, so that's fun. These next few weeks are going to be interesting, to say the least. Either way, they needed someone to cover his duties, and that ended up being me, lucky sod that I am.

Oh, and then last night, I tore myself open in my unmentionables. No, not doing anything untoward; I was cleaning myself off after using the bathroom, tugged a little too hard, and next thing I know I'm bleeding, and it's not like I can really put a bandage on that. I'm just having a good time overall!

I'm surprised your coworker was allowed to just leave the store unassisted; the first time I mentioned having chest pain during a shift at my old job I was immediately told I wasn't allowed to go over to the doctor without someone accompanying me, despite the fact it was only across the parking lot.

And uh....wow. My mind tried imagining how you actually managed to do that, failed to come up with something, and now I'm starting to tell myself maybe it's for the best I remain in ignorance of the specifics of your... technique for lack of a better word.  I hope at least it wasn't severe and just needs to heal like any other wound would.

Yeah, your guess is as good as mine how it happened; I didn't think I was going that hard and then I felt it, and yeah, that was that. It has largely healed by now, but that was a fun few days. This week has sucked, yo! I just wanna crawl in a hole and die.

Well, if nothing else it'll be a less painful way to definitely make sure you never catch yourself in a zipper.

My day has been....long. Came home with medicine for my kitty to stop his nausea, only for him to just repeatedly dry heave after failing to give it to him. Took him to a vet which is where I've spent most of my day, waiting for tests to be done to determine what the problem was. He's okay right now but I don't know if that's just because he was given medicine to alleviate the nausea or if the issue is gone fully; I'll have to probably wait until tomorrow to see how he actually is.

*sigh* I thought my kitty was getting better, but he started being unwell late last night to the point we got concerned enough to take him back to the vet. They've kept him overnight and done more tests this morning, and hopefully everything works out and we can bring him home later today with his issues fully handled. Had to call off work because there was no way I was going to go in when all of this happened at 1am, my shift starts at 4am, and I had been awake since 3am. I doubt anyone will bother to handle my department today, so I'm already planning to call out tomorrow too because I'm not dealing with a 500+ piece truck and all the stuff that wasn't done today.

And just to cap off a bad week, my Dad's about to tell me off for something that HE TOLD ME TO DO!

So, I'm trying to get rid of an old TV. In this county, they don't take them at the dumps; you have to schedule a pick-up. At my dad's recommendation, I left the TV in its packaging. Guess what waste management didn't pick up? So now I've wasted one of our four alloted pick-ups for the year, and my Dad's gonna tell me I did something wrong when HE TOLD ME WHAT TO DO! I FUCKING HATE THAT RAT BASTARD!

The last week has been pretty good for me. Got our water fixed finally after the company we were going to go with ran us in circles for a month after taking the $9,500 payment (yes, they refunded it because after running us around, they found out the company they partner with to do the boring didn't have the equipment to actually do the job - something you would think they would do BEFORE they take your money, order the specialty parts and file for all of the permits to do the job), but it worked out in the end because not only did we get a better company to do the job, they were $4,000 cheaper, coming in at only (lol only) $5,700 for the job. The most amazing thing is that the other company was going to do a method that would avoid them having to dig up the entire front yard to replace the line, and just run a new line through the existing one. Yet that would have cost almost $10,000. This other company dug up the entire yard and completely replaced the line, and actually made it longer (they decided to go around the corner of the house and then into the basement, instead of running straight into the basement from the street like the old line did to avoid having to possibly damage our porch that the original line ran under), and yet were still almost half the price. So while it was complete ass being run around and causing us to not have water for even longer than we already had, in the end it worked out a lot better because not only did we get a better quality job done, it came at a much better price tag too.

Then I got a $1.40 raise at work last week as well, so that was pretty awesome. $1.40 doesn't sound like much, but when you're poor, it adds up and makes a noticeable difference, haha.

So yeah, been a decent last week for me.

Having a "fun" week. I became ill Monday. Had to help do some cleaning at my Dad's which included a lot of...poop issues. He is unwell, but really should not be at that stage yet, he is aware he has a particular problem but continued to wear dirty trousers seemingly over and over. *facepalm*
Got sunburned and barely had any sleep this week so far. Some moron decided to steal cables that provide internet to our town (I'm using data on my mobile which at least works still). Yay. Mind feels fried but will try and work tomorrow.

EDIT: Luckily internet was fixed by the time I woke up today, thank goodness instead of tomorrow like it was estimated.

Pretty good . I've had a much-needed week off work, in which I went away a couple of times.

First of all, on Tuesday, my girlfriend and I went to the cinema to see Coyote vs. ACME. Apparently, that film was almost cancelled, but I'm glad it was reprieved in the end: it was quite silly, but certainly good fun! After the film, we had dinner at Las Iguanas, where I had vegan nachos, patatas bravas, and beef brisket tacos. Perhaps an odd combo, but when you have to avoid dairy for health reasons, "beef tacos + vegan nachos" becomes a reasonable choice . And Las Iguanas happen to have some of the best vegan nachos I've ever had!

Then, on Wednesday, my parents and I went to the National Railway Museum. As a life-long rail enthusiast, I've been there plenty of times before - but, it's regularly updated, so I can usually find something new every time I go back there. In particular, they'd revamped the Station Hall (one of their two main halls) since my last visit - with their collection of Royal Train coaches taking centre-stage. They'd also added an InterCity 125 power car to their collection - and it did feel a bit odd seeing one in a museum, since I'm used to seeing them operating on the real railways - but then, they were introduced in 1976, which I suppose is 50 years ago now!

Yesterday, before heading home, we went to Brimham Rocks - a series of strange rock formations that have been shaped by the water and the weather over millions of years (the place used to be by the sea). In particular, the Idol Stone looks very unstable - but fortunately, it didn't topple when I was there!

All in all, I had a great time. The only problem was that I left my phone charger in my room - but I have contacted the hotel, in the hope of having it returned to me!

Pretty meh week, starting off with a not a brilliant Monday when visiting my Dad, where he sent a text to my sister saying he was going to a funeral for 1PM (we assumed), we tried to get there early for 11AM because he is not in a good state to go to one. Wasn't there when we got to his place, my sister panicked. Then he turns up after 12noon, wouldn't answer where he'd been until I told him to write it down and wrote 'funeral'. We couldn't make sense of it until the evening when my brother confirmed he had went to the dentist instead. There's always something going on concerning my Dad every time we go there each week, usually more than one thing. I tend to avoid mentioning too much on here.

Work is getting slightly annoying now how they keep making us go to different departments, and it's expected of us now too, repeatedly screwing us over, but we manage to make it just about, which does mean often neglecting certain jobs. Not just that but soon they're bringing in cameras to "help" us to our job, to see when a product line goes off sale and re-stock it, as if we can't use our eyes to know when a line has become unavailable. The system won't know what we actually have in the warehouse either, so I'm expecting the camera system to keep sending the same re-stocking job throughout the day even when we don't have it.

So the past week for me has been...something, particularly this time last week. The kitten I'd rescued had basically not pooped once since the Thursday (Sept. 3) I brought it home, and late Saturday night that resulted in it throwing up, presumably because if it ain't coming out the back end it's coming out somewhere right? This is at like 1am Sunday and I have to be up at 4am for work, but instead have to rush to the emergency vet to get the kitten checked because that happening isn't a good sign. Given I have to be up for work, I stay in the car and sleep in the back seat, or at least attempted to. @ShiraNoMai doesn't leave the vet until just after 4am, and it turns out the kitten just didn't poop because it didn't like the litter.

Anyway, having been awake for so long and getting practically no sleep, I called out of work. Or rather, I tried to, except for half an hour nobody answered the phone and I couldn't stay awake any longer (nor am I going to keep calling after already spending that much time as it is) so went to sleep. 9am rolls around, I get a call from my store asking where I'm at, I tell them what was up and that's that. Until Tuesday. So I have no idea how but management has gotten the impression I always call out when my coworker is on vacation and do so because I'm overwhelmed and can't manage. Into the afternoon of my shift I get pulled aside by my immediate manager who asks me what's going on, to which I'm just clueless because at this point I don't know anything about why I was pulled aside. I ask if it was about Sunday and then get told it's about my numerous callouts whenever my coworker is on vacation, despite the fact I have literally only called out three times this year and two of those were cat emergencies. Despite me trying to explain what happened and why I didn't call the store until I got an answer, my manager didn't seem overly convinced even when I went so far as to bring in the vet bills to prove those emergencies happened, and that anything I had explained didn't seem to have changed their mind on anything about me whatsoever.

That whole thing left me feeling a multitude of ways so I took it to my store manager. I mention how if I was overwhelmed I wouldn't be doing things part timers aren't supposed to do (inventory, damages, reviewing invoices, etc.) and that it feels really shit to be asked for my side on things to then take none of it into consideration and why bother trying to do a good job if the outcome for me is the same as doing a shit one. Oh, the outcome here was I'm going to be moved off my department to somewhere else, because somehow I can't handle it now yet I spent multiple years doing my job and my degree program at the same time without any apparent issue. Anyway, the store manager opted to say I was doing this callout shit back when she was at the store years ago (she got moved then came back recently) which I couldn't give any take on because I can't remember that stuff from 3+ years ago. It gets better though, she then gives me a whole spiel about how I should've slept and come in later instead of calling out entirely, because "I've come in even with a 101F fever" as if that's a fucking sane thing to do. Ultimately it wasn't really resolving anything so when they decided they didn't care to discuss my concerns with me any longer, I said I was strongly considering giving up and not working there anymore which got an instant reaction of "No no don't do that it doesn't need to go that far". They told me to just go home and try to have a good evening which was fine by me since it was 3pm at that point and I clocked in at 5am.

So yeah, been spending the days since that Tuesday questioning whether to just ignore it all and do my thing or view it all as too much hassle to be worth the time/money to keep working there.

Effing morons those lot are, to keep bothering you over call ins, yet you do an upstanding job for them, but they not listen to what you have to say. Only for you to oh so suddenly throw out you may leave, oh no they don't want that! Geez, they just want to put a blame on someone even if they're a bloody good colleague so the higher ups get the heat off themselves. You leaving would put the heat back on them that their store/departments are lacking. That should be something you shouldn't be concerned with, because they probably deserve it the way they treat you. I don't doubt there are some other good people there that aren't that bad to you. Won't be a bad thing if you call it quits to be honest.

Yeah going to work with a debilitating illness is not advisable, poor example to give. Going in when you're practically asleep isn't either.

I suppose the kitten wasn't used to cat litter yet, I know my cats used to use either cat litter or garden soil to do their business in, so just a matter of teaching it. Which I don't know how to go about without their parent cat to teach them. Try and get it to watch...oh wait can't do that yet.

If it had just been them expressing that it's hard for them to feel confident scheduling me to cover because of my callouts lining up with those shifts, despite it being unintentional, I'd understand and totally accept that stance. What rubbed me the wrong way was being asked about it, explaining, and feeling like it didn't matter because a conclusion was already made that there must be a reason and that it can't simply be an unfortunate coincidence. Makes it feel like a stupid business formality to ask me rather than actually giving a shit about what I have to say, which is rich when the store I work for has one of those dumbass "We're all family" style mottos.

After my three shifts this week (today and the prior two days) so far nobody involved with last weeks bullshit has done or said anything, although it is funny in hindsight that today I was tasked by the grocery manager who spoke with me last week with training a brand new employee who has never worked a grocery job before, from 8am until I left at 1:30pm. I thought I was supposed to be too overwhelmed to be able to do such a thing?

As for the kitten, we changed the litter that same night and since then it's been fine, minus the one night it jumped on the bed right after I put a fresh duvet on it and took an explosive shit on it right next to me once I laid down under the covers. That was.... yeah...

Ah so it's time for them to act like nothing happened, everything is all fine and dandy then. Back to normal. Yay!

Our section leaders are getting moved about so will have to work I under one I haven't worked with before, but at least know who they are and have held the leader job a good while. I've just not interacted with them much before, and well...I caught a cold so a good start going in tomorrow. Hope he's off just like previous leader had Thursday's off.

Today is awesome. My AYN Thor finally arrived and this thing is absolutely glorious. I still have a lot of work to do to finish setting it up, but I put that on hold and just downloaded HeartGold so I could experience the absolutely glory of it on an OLED screen in x4 Resolution.
