Sorry about your loss. I'm guessing it was kinda sudden rather than from an ongoing illness since your mum is away?
Also I forget if you got full time or not but I'm guessing either way you can't use PTO or FMLA or anything to cover the wages from missing shifts?

Still not full-time yet, and I put the Time-Off Request under Bereavement, so we'll see if I get paid for it (probably not). And yeah, he died in his sleep at the ripe old age of 91. So, we always knew it was coming, we just didn't know when. So, it happened now, and like I said, I'm more annoyed than sad. I know I should be grieving and stuff, but I'm just not feeling anything, tbh.

@Moonface Yeah at least we decided to go that day, as we were considering not exactly that time, but to not try and go every single week to visit him, but now we basically need to now thanks to that mishap. If we were to not go that Monday, who knows what we may have found next time, as he's really limited himself in verbal communication even to us, let alone going out asking a neighbour or some random walk by to ask for help.
Ha, thank goodness your parents did that even if it wasn't their intention as a precaution to not having a key.

Weather has been Summer like for a few days. Today was again nice and quite hot until the sudden downpour of rain this evening. Stopped for now though.

Not too bad, really. Only worked four days (due to having a bank holiday on Monday), and didn't have a massive amount to do on those days. Just about enough to keep me occupied without getting bored .

Next week should be a bit more eventful, though, since it's my girlfriend's birthday. I'll be going to see her for four days. I wrapped her presents today: hopefully I've got enough!

Worked Sunday and celebrated my Mum's birthday at a Turkish restaurant close to us (outside of town), that two of us hadn't been to before, but my sister had done. Was really great and expressed me desire to go there for my birthday too, possibly. I had a soup starter Chicken a la Cream that was delicious.

Visited my Dad Monday with sister, and we all went to see our family friend (the one I play Scrabble with), and that went relatively well.

I was stupidly tired on Tuesday and Wednesday so just rested, and worked today. Doing an extra shift this coming Monday too.

Ah, I see. Well, at least he passed away in what I personally think to be the best way possible. As for the feeling anything, maybe it's because of how old he was so you had already been mentally prepping for the inevitable?

Went out for a walk this morning to cross paths with a neighbor who was seeking help from a domestic abuse situation with her mother. Apparently the mother has been hitting her and threatening her with a knife and shit, and also doesn't speak English which meant we couldn't go talk to her to try and calm her down or anything. Called a nearby shelter which was...honestly a waste of our time and I can't say I was impressed with how the person on the phone was handling the situation, so instead we tried calling the ladies husband but he had called the mother who then came out and... yeah it was just a whole load of drama but everyone went back to their home and hopefully things will be okay for a bit?

@Dragon Lord: I'm glad something relatively good came up for you and your mum, especially the latter with how long it's been taking for her to get that disability claim approved. I was gonna say she should totally get back pay just for how long it took (even if it wasn't for that very egregious screw-up that you mentioned) but saw she's getting that, so that's good. I don't know if that's the norm but I think any claims for that stuff should have back pay if they take longer than a month.

She will get back pay for the wait. They said in their findings that there is proof that she's been disabled/unable to properly work dating back to August of 2024, but there's a 5 month waiting period on applications, so she won't get back pay for August-December of 2024, but should get it for January 2025-current date when they finally do the final approval (yes, the approval needs to have a final approval), which should be in the next week or two.

Sadly though the good news couldn't stay for long, because not long after that good news came in, our water line burst and is going to be a $10,000+ repair (we're still waiting for it too, been without running water for almost two weeks now). So sadly life couldn't let us just have a break for too long.

On a positive note though, the copy of Pokemon Moon I bought off of eBay arrived and it was indeed a factory sealed, true North American copy of the game, so I'm pretty happy about that. Was kind of worried it would arrive and actually be a UAE copy of the game instead like a majority of listings are.

What got you to buy a copy of Pokémon Moon in particular? Is it for collection purposes since it's factory sealed or did you buy it with the intent to open and play it?


My day so far has been mixed. Woke up in the night with a migraine that wouldn't piss off so I just decided to get up at 2am since I couldn't sleep anyway, and then when I got to work I had to restock a freezer section that broke down yesterday and got emptied.
A highlight of the day though is the driver in front of me at a red light in a Jeep with a rear window decal that said "GO AROUND! If it was meant to go fast it wouldn't be shaped like a fucking brick!". I love when drivers have decals that have an element of self-aware humor behind them.

There was actually an add-on to the insurance we could have gotten when the insurance company changed who they work with, but in usual fashion, they didn't tell anyone about it and of course we only find out about it after we would have needed it. Typical scummy insurance company bullshit.

I got Moon just because I've regained the Pokemon itch and now I'm trying to go back and get the games that I skipped out on (I talked about it briefly in another topic). Full intentions of opening them (already opened Moon), but I don't like buying used games, so I always aim for factory sealed copies out of personal preference.


MONDAY EDIT: The copy of Ultra Moon arrived today (much earlier than expected) and was indeed also factory sealed, so I'm 2-2 on not getting scammed! A couple of small dents in the game case, but considering I paid $20-$30 less than other copies of the game listed, I'll deal with those.

Well, a quick run-down on what I did with my girlfriend:

• On Thursday, we saw the 'Michael' movie in a local cinema. That was enjoyable - but, it did rather gloss over some of the negative aspects of Michael Jackson's life! Admittedly, that wasn't entirely the film-maker's fault (there were originally going to be scenes addressing the sexual abuse allegations against him, until they were forced to cut those out), but he was left looking a bit too 'perfect'. Still, I thought the film was well worth seeing!
  
  
• On Friday, we went to see my girlfriend's grandmother, for her 101st birthday. She's now living at a care home, and confined to a wheelchair, so we were quite limited in what we could do to celebrate - but, we did have a nice buffet lunch, and she had a lovely-looking cake (which sadly, I wasn't able to have any of, due to the fact that I can't eat dairy any more, but I'm sure she enjoyed it !)
  
  
• On Saturday, we visited Bristol. The main point of this trip was to go to the M Shed museum, which had a variety of exhibits dedicated to Bristol's history (including vintage vehicles; some artwork; and the Edward Colston statue that got pulled into the harbour by activists a few years ago) - but the best bit, from my point of view, was the short steam train ride in front of the museum . Also, not far away from that was a vegan fair, which was quite a psychologically-liberating place for me to visit: for once, I could look at all the food and drink being sold, and not have to worry about "Does this contain dairy?". I didn't get too much (just a Lotus Biscoff cupcake, and a crème brûlée latte), but I very much appreciated it! Our evening meal at Las Iguanas was great too: it had the nicest vegan nachos I've had so far .
  
  
• Yesterday was my girlfriend's birthday. To celebrate, we had a roast dinner at a local pub. Fortunately, this wasn't too hard to adapt to my dietary requirements: they just needed to take out the Yorkshire pudding. It also took a while to arrive (since the pub was very busy), but it was very tasty when it finally did, which is what truly counts! Then, in the evening, we had a sort of party tea (with birthday cake and other nibbly bits), and we saw the 'Elvis' film, about Elvis Presley's life. A similar sort of thing to the Michael Jackson film, really: I think I enjoyed the Michael film more, but I suspect the Elvis film was the more accurate of the two!
  
  
• Today, we had a bit more birthday cake, and watched 'A Goofy Movie'. This had been a birthday or Christmas present that I'd got her a while back, that she just now got around to watching. It wasn't the longest film - only 74 minutes - but it was entertaining enough. But then, in the afternoon, I sadly had to get on my train back home.

Back to reality now (with work tomorrow), but I was glad to be able to spend that time with her!

Updating on this: I did not, in fact, get paid. So, because I missed those days, I'm down about 500 bucks because of both missed wages and costs involved in taking the trip. So, you know... awesome.

Welcome to insurance companies in the USA, sadly. They do everything in their power to make it so they don't ever have to pay for any of your shit. Living in Florida, you've probably seen it a lot first hand (insurance companies that will stop covering hurricane damage because they don't want to have to fork over money). 

Insurance is one of the biggest scams in the United States. You pay them to help you in a time of need to cover a huge cost and instead they find every little reason to try to say it's your problem and they don't cover it. You can't even call and ask your insurance company a question about something without them using it against you and increasing your rates because you made an inquiry. 

As for Sun/Ultra Sun, no, I won't be going for them. I'm long past the days where I needed to get every version of Pokemon, haha. I'm just going to be happy that I was able to still get sealed copies of Moon/Ultra Moon for a decent price and be happy with that (same with Sword/Shield, I'm only going to get Sword and I already picked up a copy of Violet with no interest in picking up Scarlet). 

Yeah, I'm glad I wasn't scammed. I was really worried about the copy of Ultra Moon because it was only listed at $50 while every other copy was listed at like $75+, and it had a whopping $15 shipping charge and was from a relatively new seller with only like 18 reviews. So I was definitely taking a bit of a chance with that one, but thankfully it proved to be legit. Which is nice, because even with that insane $15 shipping charge, it still came out to be cheaper than any other listing for a factory sealed, North American copy of the game.

Yeesh, some good news and some bad from each of us. I suppose all we gotta do is try to truck along, with a bit or hopefully an adequate amount of enjoyment on the side.

I've got to add some more bad news, yay. Had to go over to my Dad's Sunday for a half-emergency. It's only half because his neighbours were concerned about him, visited him and had called an ambulance for him, and we got the call after. He had got stuck outside in his conservatory again but this time for four days, no key and no phone once again. Neighbour managed to break in (yes illegal but that's besides the matter), found him in there. Anyway we went over to give him some ready to eat food, neighbour also fed him. Medics tested and found nothing wrong somehow, we stayed with him for a couple of hours as we were going to visit Monday anyway and still did yesterday.

Yesterday went mostly fine although I noticed my Dad kept needing the toilet, then leakage happened while he was sitting down on a chair. May have been a side effect of not drinking for 3 days, perhaps bladder shrunk from days long dehydration or something (I'm just guessing, unsure if that actually does happen or not), but I had rush to the store to get some suitable products for him just in case. He was due to go out today for a bi-weekly thing we've set for him to go to, and didn't want him having trouble there.

Social service were already doing this, but are scheduled to visit him this Friday. My brother and sister will be attending that, I'll be at work. We did thank my Dad's neighbour, who also has offered to help if he needs them or anything. The door into the house has been unlocked (in a broken manner), so he can enter via his garden if he "forgets" his key any more times. I also tested him using the key safe outside, again (he also forgot that was outside the front door). Also the back gate's lock has been removed so he does not have to climb over it, which he had been doing. We surmised being burgled is less of a threat to him than him injuring himself where possibly nobody will be aware of a serious accident. Plus neighbourhood he's in is rather safe and friendly. There are at least 2 more neighbours that are willing to look out for each other and his house. It's just my Dad hasn't been that social with them unfortunately, but they've know his side of the family for a long time.

About me personally, I've worked 6 days in a row, not exactly biggie. Monday morning I agreed to cover, today I offered to come in because we keep running out of time to deal with our waste, so I sorted that out today. Coupled with what's going on with my Dad has been tiring me out though.

Ugh, I feel this. We're so short staffed at my job and we have such unreliable workers that I'm picking up shifts constantly. I had to give one of my days off last week, today I already worked 5 AM - 11 AM, but now I'm going back in to work 5:30 PM - 10 PM so that my boss doesn't have to work 4 AM - 10 PM again (yes, she's done this multiple times).

Though I might not have to worry about it for much longer. The District Manager and Regional Manager just got a new boss and they've suddenly started treating my Manager like complete shit despite everything she's done for this store (it was on the verge of being permanently closed, they told her when they hired her that she had two months to turn it around before they closed it, and she not only turned it around, she rocketed it in the opposite direction. Went from a bottom 50 store out of 3,000 stores to constantly being in the top 500). 

If they end up chasing her out like they are currently doing, then I'll be immediately finding a new job. The only reason I've stayed at this job as long as I have right now is because of her, because for the first time in my life I'm actually working for someone who I feel any ounce of respect for (which she has fully earned for just being a good boss and decent human being, instead of a corporate drone). We have... I think 9 employees currently, not counting her, and if she ends up leaving I can guarantee there's at least five of us who will leave with her.

But that's okay, that's what corporations want right now. Less employees, but ten times the amount of work done so they can pocket more of the profits.

So FedEx has well and truly fucked me. Like, there is no way they could have fucked this up harder than they have right now.

I'm on a new medication for my Ulcerative Colitis, and surprise surprise, its temperature controlled. If it rises above 46 degrees, it dies! So it's imperative that I get it as soon as possible so that I can get it in the fridge! And I would do that IF IT HAD ARRIVED LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO!

This medication was shipped in overnight packaging, and was supposed to arrive today between 8 AM and 430 PM. According to the tracking number, it HASN'T EVEN LEFT THE DISTRIBUTION CENTER as of the writing of this post! It's been there since 6:19 AM! My three days off was scheduled around getting this shit on time, and that's to say nothing of the fact that if I don't get this medication, I will miss my due date, which is this Thursday, and I don't know how many days I can miss! I have an appointment with a fucking nurse from the manufacturer on my due date so she can show me how to use this thing, and I'm gonna have to tell her "Sorry, but the shipping company didn't get it to me in time?!"

And before one of you bastards tell me "you should have used a different carrier; FedEx sucks," I didn't get to choose the carrier. I have to get this medication direct from the manufacturer because my insurance refuses to pay for it! So I was apparently always fucked!
